When I ask her "to marry me
she began to shrink like a flan
nel shirt.
That's an odd comparison.
What do you mean ?
Well, its true. She got up all
around my neck.
An old sister was hearing her
lesson in American history, the
subject being the capture of.
Ticonderoga by Ethan Allen, who
demanded the surrender "in the
name of Jehovah and the Conti
nental Congress." The sister
asked, "What wus the Continen
tal Congress ?" and tho child
gave a satisfactory answer.
"Who was Jehovah ?"' "Well. I
don't exactly know. I think it
was either Columbus or George
Washington."
THE YOt'UH PUMP.
Boyts, Porter & Co have been
awarded a premium and a medal
on their Yough pumps exhibited
at the World's Pair. One of the
pumps was in practical use from
early in the spring until the close
of the Pair, as a boiler feed to
the immense battery of bolters
which supplied power for Ma
chinery Hall.
It was a 16*8*18 single double
acting pump. The award is a very
gratifying official endorsement of
the excellence of these pumps,
not only as boiler feeds, but more
particularly as mine pumps. The
Yough pump stood in the fore
front of the many mine pumps
exhibited at the Fair. The pump
i? very popular in the Connells
ville coke region, where its use
both as a boiler feed and a mine
pump Is almost universal. The
H. C. Frick Coke Company use
the Yough mine pumps at all
their works.
They are used in every part of
tne United States and many are
in use in the West Virginia mines.
There is one in use at a water
works in China.
The Yough pump is an institut
ion which reflects credit upon the
enterprise and push of the manu
facturers whose plant at Connells
ville Pa., is one of the most com
plete in the country.
