Advices received Indicate clear ly the election of Republican Senators in ten out of thirteen Senatorial districts, namely, the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh. Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh. There are 13 hold-overs of which only three are Republicans. This will give the Democrats 13 and the Repub licans 13. Of the 65 members of the House of Delegates to be elected the Republicans have elected be tween forty and fifty.. At any rate they will have from 25 to 27 majority in the House. It is a Waterloo for the Democracy. On joint ballot the Legislature is safely Republican apd a Re publican protectionist will suc ceed Senator Camden on March "fourth. BETTER TIMES. VERY indi cation points to a Repu blican majority in both branches ot the National Congress. The wave of pro t e c t i on has swept the coun try and all that prevents a full restoration ot our former prosperity is the fact that Mr. Cleveland still holds his old place. This much, however, is assured?the war on Ameri can industries must cease. Confidence will be restored and times will get better. ' It is one of those victories that will start the mills and open avenues for capital that has been idle so many months. Do not fail to notice the effect of this victory on busiuess. The Democrats will claim that it is Cleveland still guiding "Ship of State," but the people win not be deceived by such stuff. Harrison county gave Dove ner for Congress 2.767 ; Reed for Senator 2,775. The frantic efforts of the Democrats to reduce Reed's vdte* by publishing silly affidavits and attempting to buy Popnlists, availed them nothing. The vote speaks for itself. inly 3wear Preston is Republican by over 2,000. McDowell is Republican by 1.450. Fayette is Republican by over 1,400. Marion is Repub lican by three hundred and forty. Mineral i& Republican by over three hundred. The Republicans may have tweDty-seven majority on joint ballot in the Legislature Thanksgiving. The President has appointed November 29th as Thanksgiving day saying in that proclamation: "On that day let our ordinary work and business be suspended and let us meet in our accustom ed places of worship and give thanks to Almighty God for our preservation as a nation, for onr immunity from disease and pesti lence, for the harvests that have rewarded our husbandry, for a renewal of national prosperity and for every advance in virtue and intelligence that has marked our growth as a people." We believe the victory of this present week is the beginning of the renewal of prosperity. ihe voters of Harrison county have spoken without fear or favor, and hurled back with de fiance the attack made upon their thriving industries by the Demo cratic delegation now misrepre senting our State in Congress. As long as our hills are filled with coal and our mountain tops and valleys covered with sheep, they have jjo use for Novia Scotia coal and South American wool, nor those who represent? alien interests, our home indus tries and home labor. William London Wilson can now arise and explain to his Democratic friends over the water, "how it happened." Those same newspapers that published lies and affidavits iast week will publish a lot of slush about Republicans this week. It all comes from the same con taminated source. Nobody be lieves a word of it TV-e Tribune, supposed to be a I temocratic paper published in I a secluded building on Main street, was used most effectually during the campaign by the Re publican committee. It spoke in no uncertain terms in our favor To our friends who have made inquiry at this office to know if it was not issued by the Republi can committee as a campaign document, we Jan truthfully was not. Those interested UathlBB Ii the Way the F?bner Ex presnet Himself. sion. Boys, we thank you: If our friends, the Ntws. will continue to advocate free coal, free wool and free lumber and taxed sugar until 1896, Harrison county will increase her major ity from 706 to 2,500. When ever you corral a set of rascals and beat them at their own game they cry ''stop thief." Never m the history of our coun ty have the Democrats resorted so openly to the "speak easies" to further cause. The evidence of the vile concoction could be seen on the streets for days be fore the election. The result of the disgraceful act can be seen by the large Republican gains. This community will not uphold such proceedings. Every tanner who felt that a great injustice had been done by placing his wool on the free list xvbile corporations were protect ed, now wears a broad smile. It is a genuine whole-souled Re publican langh and it does us a lot of good to see the old fellows so happy. Tuey come to town, meet old acquaintances <ind in their delight hug one another and dance around like boys. They figured and figured on the whole lot And the more they figured the bigger the majorities got. They figured on Dovener until be was all right, Then they figured on Johnny Howard, nntl they figured him out of sight. In the six Mew England States there is apparently only one Democrat elected to Congress? Fitzgerald, of Boston. New York has five and Pennsylvania two, a total of eight Democrats out of 100 members. Cleveland made love to "Queen Lii," hauled down the American flag and sent his embassador to England and bffered the Lords and the nabobs the markets of the country which the old soldiers fought to defend. The American people have now repudiated his disgraceful act and demand that 'old glory" be hoisted again to the topmost mast, that the home markets remina for our own people, and that the battles fought by the veterans be an in spiration for us. Two years ago when there was a Democratic land slide, she incresed her Republi can majority over 100 and since that time her "hosts triumphant" have steadily pushed onward un til this year 1894, when across her escutcheon must be engraved the crowning climax of a battle royal. Harrison county has a great future. She stands at the head of the trtily grand counties of the State. Under a systefn of protection she is destined to become one of the wealthiest and most prosperous counties in the Union. Her vote on last Tues day shows *hat her people real ized the urgent need of the hour and cast their votes in favor of happy homes and cheerful fire sides. The Telegram congrat ulates all concerned in this vic tory. There was a Wolfe in sheeps clothing a few days ago astray in this county, but he was safely captured Tuesday and the farm ers now feel no concern about their flock ? Earthquake Mkcrk*. Mexico City, November? The strongest earthquake shocks ever felt in Moxioooccurred hero last night, lasting over five minutes. Many houses ami walls fell. Tho streets wore full of fleeing people. Many ware i injured and a number have died The electric and other lights wont out, leaving the city in darkness. All trafHc was sus pended, and the streets were , filled with screaming, cryinsr, ! praying people. The scene was indescribable. People in the theaters, which were all running at the time, were terribly frightened, and panics were averted only by tho police. The shocks were felt in the surrounding towns, but de tails aro not received yet. 11 is reported that three personB were killed and ten injured by the shock in this city so far as known. Tne Tribune need not worry about llarmer's Bridgeport speeches. He made a prophecy in that speech that he would be elected by 600. He went higher. The affidavit procured by Tom G. Brady and used by the Dod dridge -boss' against Reed, cer tainly did its work. Tho only place he could get it circulated was in Harrison and it caused Heed's vote to run S ahead of the Dn in Winter and for what breaks tho force of the wind in the Winter will not oniy serve the same purpose in Sum mer. but if the right kind will also supply shade, and shade on a farm is as necessary as some other things, Any where, under any circum I stances, a wind-break saves? saves fuel in Winter whether put into the stove or fed to the stock and in the Summer saves the life or prolongs the life of man and beast A tight board fence costs; but it is economy to build if no other kind be available, but a board fence in the Summer may be in the way and is always a radiator of heat. If It run in the right direction it may furn ish shade, but other wind-breaks are better. Better than wood, more pic turesquo and more useful in in Summer is the natural fence of willows?the common willow that grows wild in great abund ance. -Nothing requires less care. A farmer went into a meadow and cut an armful of willows in the Spring, thrusts the scions into the earth where he wanted his wind break, mak ing two rows, eighteen inches apart, ane the work was done. The willow grow with surpris ing rapidity if there be sufficient moisture, and moisture they should have in abundance at the start. After they are rooted they will grow if the soil is not moist, but they grow faster with moisture. In two seasons they may be an appreciable windbreak, and in another the hedge will turn a cow. In the Summer the hedge of willows is ornamental; it gives the yard, and the buildings generally a bright setting ; and more, it provides through the hot months shade for all small stock on the farm. The ducks, geese, hens, ckick ens and the turkeys delight in the shady retreat; the turkey may make her nest there instead of going to tho woods or road side bush. In providing a living wind-break, several purposes are accomplished, everyone im portant and useful.?Oeorge Ap ! tit ton m Farm and Fireside.
