In as muoh as the former Council made no" final settlement neither record
ed in its initiates nor published any financial statement, this Gouncil not know
ing what was properly to be credited to either the general or water fund, having
first required Sergeaut James H. Smith to settle, as required by Code of 1801,
page 1023, directed the*Reoorder to charge present Sergeant and credit any
money received from officers of former Council to the general fund, which was
accordingly done and expressed in the first following four items :

since April 8, 1808,
STATEMEST OF LIABILITIES.
The Town owes the Mayor's office and Council Chamber rent to Judge Goff
and for lighting of streets to Clarksburg Electric Light Company and Clarks
burg Gas Company sinoe January 1, 1898; also the lust pay roll, for some sand
stone and whatever it may oost to publish this financial statement in each paper
in town. The jail fees are unpaid since April 8, 1808. We may haye overlooked
some small aooount but scarcely think so.
Your committee approve and recommends the adoption of the foregoing
financial statements.
