It is provided that Bar bour county shall furnish the place of meeting at Philippi until other arrangements are made by law. Representative Davis has intro duced the same bill in the House. The West Virginia Fair Associa tion at their first exhibition intend to have the largest and most com plete poultry show that lias ever been seen in thir- State. The first step taken to a^u re that has been the appointing of Mr. W. H. Lewis as tho general manager of the ex hibit. Mr. Lewis' fAnc a* a poul try fancier has become national, and he will give his personal attention to every detail of the show. At the first exhibition of the Clarksburg Poultry association, of which Mr. Lewis is the secretary and one of the chief exhibitors, there were on view just 100 birds. At the second show 600 fowls were exhibit ed, and it is confidently expectcd that at the show of the West Vir ginia Fair association fully 1.000 birds of every breed and species will be displayed. It will be Mr. Lewis' duty to se cure plans and specifications for a modern chickcn house, with all the latest sanitary devices and equipped with all the latest improvements known to poultry breeders. The? building will be large enough to comfortably accommodate all the birds that will be exhibited. Mr. Lewis will alto arrange the detr.il of the premium list, and secure the Silver trophies nnd ribbons that will i be awarded to the winning fowls. Hughes, the young man ar rested charged with embezzlement of the funds of the Fairmont Coal com pany, waif released Friday evening after complaint was withdrawn. As there? has been considerable said pro and con in the matter the Telegram fill here give the higtory of the east'. Jim Hughes, as he was commonly called, for .several months- past was clerk for the Fairmont Coal com pany at their Gypsy mine, but was recently transferred to the Montana mine as clerk for the same company. After leaving Gypsy it was discover ed that there wen? irregularities in his accounts there, an investigation was made, going back over a few months, and a shortage was fotnid amounting to $114.00. The total amount has not yet hem ascertained but the company calculates at this rate the shortage wonfd amount for his whole time there to he at least two or thre hundred d'oiTuife. A warrant was sworn ont for Hughes and he .was arretted in Wheeling and brought to'the Clarks burg jail. Before hearing- was gi ven his father came on and marie .-ome reimbursement of the funds. Mr. Hughes, the elder, is a prom inent man of Wheeling and higfify respected by the officials of the coaf company and their sympathy for him kept them from prosecuting the young man vigorously. As it is he is dismissed from tlie service of the company and it is promised by the father that he will remove his son from this section. The eon! company while refusing' to prosecute will do nothing further' fro mprprenting the law from tak ing its course, should it be found proper by the officers to pursue the matter fnrther. At the offices of the Fairmont Co.il company Friday night, an official of the department which was respon sible for the warrant for the arrest^ of .Tames E. Hughes said: "The case against the young mau was allowed to be compromised by us, not because we could mnke no ease against him, but on account of the personal friendship existing be tween several of our people and the father of the boy, Mr. El wood Hughes.' a prominent resident oi Wheeling.
