Mrs. Augusta Hamley was up from Omaha over Sunday visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bollen Bert Miller and Ed Larson were taken before Mayor Laub Monday and fined $10 each for lighting on Sunday. J. Ppter Jepsen was down from Schleswig Friday attending to some business matters at the county cap! tal. Mrs. Wilson Kipp and daughter, of Seattle, Wash., arrived in Denison on Thursday for a throe weeks' visit at the homes of her mother, Mrs. L. A. Sewell, and sister, Mrs. R. O. Mc Connaughey. Mi* and Mrs. T. J. Garrison and son Earling, aid Rkymond Garrison, of Council Bluffs,- drove .to Lake View Thursday, where they will enjoy a month's outing, having rented a cot tagd at Lake Wood. Paui Caswell left last week for Cher okee, where he has a position as lino type operator on the Timet*, -for the summer months. He will return to Iowa City this fall to resume hf$ stud ies at the State University. -1 Mr and Mrs. C. L. Voss and Loyal, Mrsi E. Gulick and Mrs. L. M. Shaw motored to Lake View Thursday, where they enjoyed the day visiting home of the Denison people who are spending the summer there. Mrs. Ed Lies and daughter, Margar et, who reside at Waterville, Wash., arrived in the city last Thursday for an extended visit with her parents, M. and Mrs. R. Knaul. Mr. Lies con templates coming to Denison for a visit while his family is here. Mrs. Carl Richardson enjoyed a few days' visit last week from two school girl friends, Miss Helen Morrison, of York, Pa., and Miss Delia Moberly, of Newton, Iowa. They departed Mon: day for Estes Park, Colo., where they wifl enjoy a few weeks' vacations Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Caswell depart ed Inst Thursday for Chicago where they took a special train conducted by the National Editorial Association for the east to attend a convention. They will visit New York and Phila delphia and at the latter place Mr. Caswell will attend the convention of the Associated Advertising Clubs of the World in the interests of the Iowa Press Association, of which lie is field secretary. Announcements were received in Denison the latter part of the week by friends of John Lueck announcing his marriage to Miss Emeline Spencer, which occurred at Dos Moines, last Wednesday. Mr. Lueck is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Lueck, of this city, and for some time was in the employ of the Balle Brodersen Co. For the past 1 Miss Lovicie Morris, of Deloit, Vis ited friends here Monday. Miss Vesta Riddle was a shopper in Denison Saturday from Dow City. Arnold Brockman wa a business call er in the city Friday from West Side. Mrs. C. L. Voss visited her sister Mrs. J. S. Melson at Jefferson Sun day. Miss Thelma Meyer underwent an operation at the Meehan hospital last week. Mrs. J. W. Mills enjoyed a few days visit last week from Mrs. Stearns, of Logan. Miss Kate Powers, of Vail, is taking treatment at the Dr. Meehan hospital this week. James Menagh visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Menagh in O malia Sunday. Daniel Hemphill, of Buck Grjovo, was a pleasant county seat business caller Monday Miss Zella Patterson, of Rodney, la spent several days in Denison last week visiting friends. Mrs. John Schnoor is spending a few days this week at Manning visiting her sister, Mrs. Bolte. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Voss went up to Lake View Sulnday and enjoyed the day at the Cushman cottage. Walter Lingard was up from Dow City Saturday transacting business and calling on acquaintances. J. V. Barborka and son Clifford were passengers to Omaha Sunday morning where they enjoyed the day visiting friends.' Mrs. J. Schwartzenbach left Monday evening for Carroll, whero she is spending the week,visiting at the home of her son Jess. Mrs. Edith Mullen and son of CJlinton arrived in Denison -Irist Thursday, for a visit at the home of her sister, Mrs, W. W. Ferguson. Miss Ella Harding will leave this evening for a two weeks' vacation trij: to Chicago, where she will' visit rela tives and friends. Messrs. Emil and William Dettbarn were in Denison from West Side Fri day attending to some business mat ters at the county capital. Mrs. W. T. Wright and daughter Miss Edna are spending a few days in Ute this week at the home of Mrs F. A. Smith, sister of ,the former. Mrs. C. L. Ducander and little son departed Monday for Maquoketn, where they will make a two or tlire weeks' visit with -Mrs. Ducander's par ents. Mr. and Mrs. John Marnin and son and Mrs. Frazier and son Carl, resi dents of Adair, were guests at the home of Dr. J. J. Meehan several days last week, John Buck had the. misfortune to fall from a bicycle Sunday and break his collar bone. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Clarke returned Sunday from Chicago, where they spent a ten days' honeymoon visiting Mr. Clark's mother and sister. They are making their home with Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hugg until fall when they will have possession of the Mrs. Mary McMahon home, which they purchased recently. Miss Clara Scriver, who teaches in the public schools of Omaha, arrived in Denison Friday evening for a visl' at the parental, W. J. Scriver, home. Miss Scriver will act as one of tji§ bridesmaids at the Powers-Lally wed ding, and expects to leave the first of July for Aberdeen, S. D.„ where she will spend the summer visiting heif sister, Mi% R. F. Romans. Rowland Philbrook, who has been in Denison for the past two weeks visiting his parents. Dr. and Mrs.-Phil brook, departed Monday morning for Powell, Wyo., where he will spend the summer in charge of the Episco pal church at that place. Howard Brinker, who was his guest while in Denison, goes to Mateetsie, Wyo., where he will liav^ charge of an Epis copal mission. Miss Marcella Nachtmann arrived In Denison Saturday evening for an over Sunday visit with the Misses Rose and Margaret Clark. Miss Nachtmann at one time was instruct or of music in the public schools of Denison and taught German in the high school. At present she is teach ing at Bellingliam, Wash. She depart ed Monday for her home at Junction City, Kans., where she will spend the summer vacation with her parents. JWr. Carl F. Kuelinle continues to have numerous invitations to make speeches all over the state. He is able to accept only a limited number of the Invitations exte'hded. He has accepted an invitation 'to speak at Lineville at the Wayne County Ma sonic association celebration on St. Jbhn's day, June 23d. He will speak on June 25th at Libertyville at the K. P. and Odd Fellows memorial exercis es, and at Alta June 2&th at the lay ing of the corner stone of tlio new public school building. Ed. Reimer and John Rustertoolz left Monday afternoon for Flint, Mich., -where they will spend several days visiting the Buick factory. A special train was made up at Omaha Monday afternoon to take Buick dealers to Flint and they joined the party here at Denison. A stop-over will be made at Chicago and on the return trip the dealers will have an opportunity year or two he has been traveling for the Luthe Hardware Co., of Des to visit the automobile factories at Moines. The dance at the opera house last Tuesday evening was not very well attended -.but those present had an enjoyable time. Miss Amanda KrURe, of Denison, attended the dance hero last Satur day ,evening. Miss Theresa Nickelsen left Fri day morning for Clinton, where she will visit several weeks with friends and relatives. Mrs. M. Buton was initiated into the O. E.
