If Woman's Place Is at the Sink, Let It Be High lately architects or plumbers have taken pains t| consult womankind as to how high or low sinks shall stand, comes Mrs. Bertha Tallman, who calls, herself a "house sur geon." has been a plumber for ten years, ever since her husband died and left her his business. But she carries on the plumbing trade lUt« a woman, and one of the first things she set herself to do was to find out what wo men really need and not to tell them what she thinks they need when they know they don't. "The contention that sinks must all be the same height, she soys, "Is: a'a absurd as if shoes were all made the same size. Every day thousands of women are breaking their backs over sinks that are set too low. They are becoming nervous and round shouldered with constant stooping to their Work. It is quite'unnecessary. Bathtubs ought to stand higher. It is almost Im possible to ciean under them with any degree of comfort." Every woman who has ever lain flat on the floor to grope under the bath tob with a long bandied, brush knows that onlyjtoo well, but It was no usa tolling tho plumbers so. Light Is another thing on which Mrs. Talluian has notions of her own. Sinks set In dark corners and stoves oa which neither nat ural nor artificial light shines are not properly placed. c. .. ....
