P. Otts, late of West Presbyterian Church, this city, was in stalled yesterday afternoon as pastor of the Chambers Presbyterian church, Broad and Sansorn BtroetK, Philadel phia. A large congregation assembled to witness the ceremouiep,notwithstand ing the inclement weather. Dr. Rob ert M. Patterson delivered the sermon, from the sixteenth aud seventeenth versts, lirst chapter, of Paul's epistle to the Romans. Rev. \V. P. Breed, of the West Bpruce Street Presbyterian church said that at the last meeting of bis brother ministers, held December 1, Mr. Otts was unanimously elec ted to their society. li« was received from the Presbyterian So ciety at New Castle, aud in hia elec tion the Presbytery of Philadelphia, rejoiced to think that their membership was increased by oue whose fame lias proceeded him in all hia travels. lie was glad to think that jiiis congregation had showu such wisdom iu s-lecting one to fill their pulpit who would at all times instruct them after Christ's own heart The usual preliminary ques tions were then a-ked of Mr. Otts pre vious to the confirmation of the call. Thecommittee that confirmed this ap pointment was composed of the Rev. VV. P. Breed, D. D., pastor of the West Spruce Street Presbyterian Church;Rev. S. W. Daua, pastor of the Walnut Street Presbyterian Church, Dr. J. M. Crowell and Rev. R. M. Patterson. He stated that he came to Wilmington visit and while walking over Third street bridge he was approached by two nieu one of whom grabbed him by tbe Jhroat while the other rifled his pockets of $15. Some one approaching at the time he was thiowa into the creek by the thieves who afterwards in oontinentally fled. He then swam ashore, The officer? subsequently ar rested two individuals whose appear ances were in accord with Michael; but Michael failed to identify them and they were released. At the man's clothes were thoroughly saturated it is supported he fell into the creek aud concocted the above yarn for effect. Nor row i'acape. Sometime last night Mr. Pusey Wal ton, who resides at 805 French street, was awakeued by bis wife's mother, who informed him that there was a strong odor of something burning per- J vadiug the house. Mr. Walton had | scarcely nraerged from his room when the colored servant girl came ruthing from her room in the siory above and following lo-r came a dense volume of smoke. Upon investigation it discovered that the bed upon which the girl slept was on fire. A few buckets ot water extinguished the flames.
