In all probability there will be a very large vote polled this tomin* Fall, and there fore with popular candidates and a rea] progressive campaign, the Republicans can redeem the ground they lost dur ing the last two elections, and they will secure a majority in the next Con gress. Let the young stalwart Repub licans nominate the very best men, and then labor with untiring zeal for their election. This year should be a com plete reversal of the laBt two Congres lioaal elections when a majority of Dem ocratic Congressmen woe elected, and should result in the placing in power of those only whose loyalty and devotion to the oountry are unquestioned, and who will act for the best interests of the people. By judicious management and an onward movement all along the line, the Republicans can wrest the temporary victory of the Democrats from them, notwithstanding their con spiracy to capture the government root and branch. Let the good work begin even in Delaware, and let it go on and not cease until both houses of Congress are once more in the hands of those who saved the nation in its darkest hour of peril and gloom. Ddktxg the month of April $12,000, 000, of the public debt was paid off, thus fho<ing the advisability of keep ing the cjuntry under Republican rule. If the p :Ople will only act wisely in this matter and really wish to pay off the public delt, they will retain in office the stalwait party which not only suc cessfully conducted the war whioh saved the Union, bnt dtviiel means that aie rapidly paying off ti e debt thus incur, red. If there were nothing else this ef Itself wouldoe sufficient reason why the Republican party thould direct the af fairs of the country as long y6t in the fntnre as it has in the past. Hamilton Fish, f New York, is the latest dark horse brnught oat by the Republicans for the Presidency. To-naj'a Convention. The Republican State Convention which is being held at Dover to day will be another movement on the part of the Republicans of the State in the great campaign of 1880. It is important only as expressing the ohoioe Delaware Republicans have as to who shall he the standard bearer of the party through out the nation in the approaching con test, but it really means more than ap pears upon the surface. Political con ventions always do that. Composed as tney almest necessarily are of either fail fledged, cunning politicians and those inclined to be politicians, there is generally some far-reaching object in view by most of the delegates, which more or less influences their actions. A political convention is a political move upon the chess-board of politios, watch ed with intense interest by those who enjoy thejhonors and emoluments of ofiioe and those who have inclinations 'o be offloers in the future. Viewed in this light, thongh the convention held to-day may not'appear at flrBt sight to be of the greatest importance, yet it is se far reaching in its influences that it may turn the whole course of scattered public opinion in favor of this man or that man as a candidate for the Presi dency. , Delaware has but six votes in the National Convention out of the 700 odd AT ma'. may the oO votes may be the pivot upon which rests the whole party fabric at Chicago. 060 will all rea] of of of which it is composed, yet these six But no matter whether or not this im portance is attached to Delaware's six votes they should be cast in snch a manner as to insure to the strength and solidity of the party. Tc-day'S Con vention is important in another re spect as bearing upon politics at home. The six men who are to be sent to Chicago cannot do half the harm, vote as they may,to the party in Delaware,as would be done to it by an inj ndioions ciioiie of local leaders. A chairman of the Republican State Central Commit tee is to be chosen to-day and in a lit tle State like Delaware, where a great contest is looming up, this is a matter of no small interest to the party if it would be successful in the coming cam paign. A chairman of vim and vigor, prndent and careful, aggressive and yet not obnoxious, i8 required to lead the party in the coming struggle. To choose such a man will be the duty of the Republican Convention te-day at Dover. The choice of a judicioss leader will have muoh to do with eusuring either vi.tory or defeat. We hope that choice will be intelligent, ly and judiciously made. It is also hoped that whatever of acrimonious feeling r-ay have been engendered thus far may be all thrown to the winds when the Convention adjourns, and that when a choice is made the party may be a unit afterwards. We wish that the party machinery oonld have b«en so worked and controlled that a candidate for Congress and Presiden tial electors could also have been se lected to-day, so that there need here after have been no more Motion, and the party conld have settled right down to a hard busy summer's work and not have been compelled to go through another State Convention campaign. The fewer State Conventions a party can have in a small state like Delaware where everybody knows each other, the bettor it will always be for that party, especially in a State where there are but three counties, and eaoh county jealous of the political influence of the other. T day cor. the or the The Flower Heason. Tbongh nature is not yet completely clofUtd in her spring garb of flowers nearly everybody who has any love for the beautiful, his the flower fever more or less. Nearly every house wife now be seen trudging homeward from market and from hot houses with bask ets and pots of geraniums, forced into smiling beauty by the congenial cli mate of a hot house, fnchias resemb ling the most gorgeons ear bobs; dicen tra plants with hearts dangling from their louder branches; pansies that al. most wink and blink as they turn their sauoy faces towards the snn; allyssum, little tower, bnt modest and fragrant; verbenas that seem the sir with sweet ness; for t etme 10.3 ml other spring flowers. Roses are a wa s standard flowers md at this eeasor of the when they l loom and blush m the market oorners the temptation to buy whole of them is only checked by limited purses. A great deal of money is spent uselessly for flowers every spring, and we are pleased to see the disposition to purchase them, for it in dicates a love for natural beauty. A person who loves flowers and whose ains oi sale In ean for oi A. paid our N sale. N our y« ar sized the new. heart is moved by the tender music, we mean the righ' sic, gives indication of a refined nature far different from the man uremoralized iu song who had "no music iu his soul," and was consequently fitted for " trea son, stratagem and spoils." The man who stands upon the street corners selling flowers does agood work ' esides filling his own pocket with the pecuniary reward of his labors. Many a saddened heut crushed by affliction is quickened into new life at the sight of the flowers whleh look so cheerful and pleasant, passing apparently more than human power to smooth down the rongh ragged corners ef life. A diffi culty always meets the purchasers of flowers, the flower plot in the front or back yard is too small to hold them. This suggests to builders of houses the K of mu N N. Call jr ready ticle ing and I tl.n street. I propriety of always having ample room left for-flower beds. Nothing makes s home more cheer ful and happy than to see it embowered in flowers. In the purchase of flowers, unfortunately per sons of limited mtans do not use proper discretion. Attracted by pretty tulip, lily or other spring flowers that con centrate all their beauty and fragrance into a week's blooming, they purchase them and in a few days they have no flowers. There is nothing gives more satisfaction than the ever blooming ro ses, geraniums, fuschias, verbenas, pan sies and allyssum which never cease to bloom winter and summer, when proper oars is taken of them, and after ai} they embrace nearly all the beauty there is in flowers TBe Bleicle Club. At the meeting of the Byciole Club, last evening, in the upper room of the Crosby & Hill building, No. 220 Market street, information was imparted to the effrot that the old foundry could be rented no reasonable terms, but as the owner may possibly 6«11 the building almest instautly he will only rent it a month at a time. The Club can get possession of it on the 25th of this month. The committee, who were appainted to examine the building and report as to the cost of repairing it, was also in vested with authority to rent it imme diately should it appear desirable. A committee of seven was appointed to make inquiry a e to the probable cost of furnishing a gymnasium. The prospect is that the club will be successful in bioyling and gymnastics, The next meeting will be held next Wednesday evening. ol or to the 3 RHE LARGEST CLOTHING HOUSE L lu Philadelphia, JOHN WANAMAKIiR, rand Depot. 13:1. at..
