Tho scene presented on the river was a
most interesting one. Ten miles below tilt

About 7 o'clock on Friday evening, num
bers of the wounded commenced to arrive
from the front of the lines, with a few of the
most intelligent of whom I had an opportu
nity of converging. Thoae engaged in the
repulse of Stonewall Jackson represented

prise but found them all momentarily ex
pecting his approach, having been informed
