the emotions and aspirations that
moves the heart of men.
Scattered here and there over
the vast scene like “angel vi it-,
few and f.tr between, are those
whose steady upw'ard gaze and
unswerving steps would tell us
that they had thrown off the
filthy rags of earth and are press
ing forward to obtain the robes
immortalles Others whose sad
and mournful countenances show
us that their heartsflnd minds run
back, and that they are longing for
the music of the silvtr cords that
was snaped. the pitcher that was
broken at tlie fountain — like
Rachel refusing to tie comforted.
Others who with bright smiles
and kind words are scattering
seedsof kindness, making joy arid
gladness wherever they go. These
are some ol the silver linings. J
would there was no clouds. But
the scene continues to pass, and
we see a great multi.ude erecting
earthly al&rs to riches, power,
vain, glory, etc., etc., forgetting
the admorii ten “that it i- not all
life to live,” that the time and
place shall short ly know them no
more forever. Others who would
grasp at the infinite, an t would
tell us that away back in the pa-t,
leaving to our.imagination to fix
the date, that we were evolved
from some kind of an animal,
again leaving it to our imagina
tion to fix tit ‘kind T <y would
have us ignore the immutable law
that God has stamped on all ani
mal creation, “that thus far shait
thou go and no farther.” O hers
(pigmies) among the giants, in
their vanity, are vauntirigly striv
ing to convinco the world of the
great “mistakes of Moses.” They,
in their self-sufficiency, would
pull down tiie superlatively grand
temple, Christianity, and then ac
knowledge they have not the abil
ity to build another in the po-i

A tVesteru Marriage.
A newly elected justice of the
peace, who bad been used to draw
ing deeds and wills and little else,
was called as bis first ollicial act to
marry a couple who came into bis
office very hurriedly and told then
purpose. He lost no time in rt mov
ing is hat, and remarked :
“Hats off in the presence of the

All being uncovered, lie said :
“Hold up your right hands. You,

that to the best of your knowledge

“I do,” answered the groom.
“You, Alice Ewer, take this yer
man for yer husband, to have air
ter hold forever; and you do further
swear that you are lawfully seized
in fee simple, are free from all in
cumbrance, and htv good right to
sell, bargain and convey to the said
grantee, yerself, yer heirs, adminis
trators and assigns V”
