BY BEKMlS, The fi.-h is not a musical least, though some of them give forth "sounds," as the cod fish, for instance. He cannot speak any of the dead lan guages, except his own, which is so dead you can't hear it. They seem to understand each ether, though each ha a different tongue. They are a sad paradoxical sort of a bird, with mouths largo enough, yet they can't sing ; though near sighted, they do not wear spectacles ; without ears he can hear all you say, henc you should never swear in his presence, or you'll not catch a finh. The fish is uo r-jmancer, though "thereby hangs a tail and he is the origin of "whoppers of stories." What game at card he plays we know not, yet his "tricks" are all scalry. Though he frequently appears to smile, he is often crab bed, clammy, and backs out of any difficulty crawfishing. He never was known to write a letter, and yet many a line is dropped to him. He is very credulous, generally swallowing any thing presented to him. Theugh not a base-ball player Le is often "caught out on a fly." He will take what things he wants by "hook or crook," you hook his mouth, crook your elbow, and he takes a flying lesp and is a "gone suck er." The poet said of him : "There1. the ntite little flsli. Tiiounh he tau't spake, he'd wish." Some have saws, but are not carpenters ; others carry swords but were never in the army. They fly without winsrs ; walk without feet, and can climb a tree and rob birds nests. But fearing this may be cot -idered a burlesque on the finny tribe, we close y saying that plenty abound in the streams in nd about Ottawa, and overybody has become h fi.herman. Burke t JJeenan are determined to be beaten by no other firm or house in Ottawa, either in thn extent and variety of their goods, or in keeping pare with the reduction of prices. Confident of a nood senson for all sort of busi ness this year, they have bought very largely this spring, and have been enabled to obtain a splendid stock which they can sell at bottom figures. Still Tiikv Comk. All the week there has been a crowd of people, chiefly the elite of our city, at Hull's, looking through and buying those fine goods of which Hull has such a heavy assortment. The stock would do credit to the finest dress goods store in Broadway. The va riety is immense ; the quality the most elegant ; while the prices are such a to enable any one to buy ; and so reasonable are the prices, and superiot in pattern, style and fashion, that no one need go abroad far f incy goods of any sort. Mr. Hull makes it a point to keep all the fiuer grades, and is especially careful to keep hi stock up with the fashions. As fast a he learns of a new fashion prevailing at .New York, or at any of the fashionable places, he at once pro cures the article. He says it is no troublo to show goods. He is always on hand with a corps of good looking nud gentlemanly assistants ready to wait upon his customers.
