live on the Illinois river, and secure, if possible,

good in this direction. We ought to have und

can lie secured if the people along the river seek

the protection of tish after they are gotten into
the river. As the legislature meets this winter,
all who take an Interest in the subject through
out the state should see that it gets be
fore Ihut body. Much opposition we are told has
heretofore come from the rural members whose
constituents live buck from the river. As these

servation of game is vastly more expensive than
that of tish, (have they figured up the amount of
grain devoured by our feathered game) an ob
jection by them seems ridiculously inconsistent.
At any rate if good strong petitions for u law
from all parts of the state were to be presented
to both houses, there is little reason to suspect
that they would lie tabled or disregarded. The
late election having demonstrated the great ne
cessitv of more brain food to a large part of the
state's population, tlie least the legislature could
do in the premises would be the passage of nluw
to assist in making tish plenty.
