Supervisor Lewis, chairman of the com mitleo on linance, submitted the following report, which, on motion, was adopted: To the limn? of Huiieniittom of Lu HMc Comity: CiiiNTi.ii.MiiN Your committee on finaiiro having examined tho llnimciul condition of the county would recommend tho following: That the sum of one hundred and fcixty thousand dollars bo levied upon the tux able property of the county, ami extended on tho collector's books or the various (owns as county tax for the year A. I). 1883 to meet tliu appropriations made by tho Hoard of Supervisors mid the usual ex penses ol the county fur the ensuing year, to-wit : Tim court house mid jail liiiililinjj fund, fifty tliotHimd dollars. The general county fund, from which fire paid all expt uses incident to tho heat ing, lighting, furnishing ami otherwise lln ishing and protecting, it.-, well us of occu pying the new court house and jail build lngs.'thn sum ol one hundred and ten thou sand dollars. The committee are aware that this levy is much in excess of what their report 111 July indicated the levy would be, and would stale, 111 explanation, that us tlu completion ol the new court house is more nearly approached the expenses of litting it for occupaucy are more clearly seen than they were in July. Tho county is performing a great work in erecting a court house and jail at the some time and paying for them as they go. The levy of fifty thousand per year for three years to build the houses would not have been noticed particularly, but now in tho year ot completion and occupancy wc are called upoti to raise that and also to pay all tho expenses of heating, lighting, protecting froiri lire, furnishing and occu pying the buildings, in which is included the boiler-house ami water connections for the Biimo. Add to this a largely increased county expense occasioned by the restoring of the burnt records, the rent and addition al expense of running tho various cilices as they are now located, mid the occasion for this largo levy will be fully and cor rectly appreciated. The committee would recommend that tho county clerk be uuthori.cd and di rected to extend upon the collectors' books of the several towns for the current year, according to law, such rates and per cent, as shall produce the necessary s.ute tux as certified hy the auditor of public uccounls of this state, and also the amounts re quired for school purposes, as certified hy directors of the several school authorities, also the amounts required for municipal purposes ns certified by the proper author ities, also the sums required hy the several towns for the various purposes of the same according to the ceitilleales now 011 fllo In the county clerk's oflice. The committee would recommend that the chairman of this board and the treas urer cf this county he authorizid to bur row from time to time sucli sums as may ho necessary to meet the wants of thcoouu- 'y- All "f which is respectfully submitted.
