On Thursday evening of last week persons living near Chestnut street, north of the canal, heard the screams of u woman who seemed to be struggling with two or three men. An in vestigation proved that u young woman known as "Beatrice" had been the victim of an as sault; and on her sworn complaint a young man named Wm. Schoor was arrested as one of the assailants. Another young man named Fox is said to be implicated in the dastardly affair, and hi capture was nearly effected on Tuesday. He had been literally run to ground in the clay mine at Brickton, and Otlicer Dwyre of the poller force stationed to guard the en trances to the mine. In some way the Kox escaped through one of the openings while the otlicer was watching the other. When dis- covered Dwyre gave chase, but the pursued succeeded In getting away. Tlie large farm barn of Kphraim Shaver, of Rutland township, together with all its con- tents and surroundings, was destroyed by Are about 10 o'clock Thursday evening. Among the property burned were live valuable horses (the sixth breaking its halter and getting away), two buggies, wagons, harness, a thousand bushels of oats, and several stacks of hay. The loss will be uot less than 1,000, with no insurance. The cause w unknown, but is thought to have been the result of lighting a cigar in the barn.
