SINCE I BELONG TO THEE. Since I belong to t'.iee, my Savior God, All must be well, however rough tho road; However dark my way or prospects lie, All, all is right since overruled by Thee. Safely in Thee shall Thy beloved dwell, Though storms may rngo and angry tempests swell; All day long their covering Thou shalt be; What, then, can harm those, Lord, safely kept by Thee? Feeblest of all thy flock, Thou know'st me, Lord; Helpless and weak, I stay upon Thy Word; In all my weakness this Is still my plea, That Thou art mine, and I belong to Thee. Then come whatever may, I am secure; Thy love unchanged shall to the end endure; Frail though I am, Thine everlasting arm Shall shield Thy child from every breath of harm. Thy loving eye shell guide where'er I roam; Thy Holy Spirit lead nic to my home; Thou wilt not let thy feeble frail ono stray, Though dark temptation oft may crowd my way. In sorrow's saddest hour Thy strength my etey; My darkest night, Lord, Thou, ennst turn to day; The most loved hero may sometimes change ful be; Thou changest not—and I belong to Thee. Than may the life, which now on earth I live, Be spent for Him who His for me did give; Ob, make me, Lord, in all I will and do, Ever to keep Thy glorious end ln view. And when my course Is run, and. fought the fight, Life's struggles o'er, and faith Is changed to sight, Then all triumphant I shall ever l*y , • , Safe ln Thy home, tor I belong to Thee. Fullness of Joy! with all Thy ransomed there, In Thy loved presence I shall forever share; With them I'll sing the love that made us free— The grace that taught us we belong to Thee! BSSSIB ACKEBLET. PATRONS OF INDUSTRY. A new order similar to tbe Patrons of Husbandry, has recently come into existence in the city of New York. The Secretary of the National Lodge fives the following account of it: Our precept is: "By industry we thrive." The ritual is extremely plain and simple, and there is nothing about our exercises that the most scru pulous person could object to. All of our work is secret, and many of our members who are connected with the Masonic, Odd Fellows and other so cieties, declare that the forms and usages adopted by us are the most beautiful and reasonable that could be selected. We have the least ceremo ny possible, and merely enough to conduct our business in a systematic, pleasant and social manner. In order that the fullest degree of natural feel ing and actual purity ahall always be with us, we have both sexes in mem bership; thus we are proud to say that where we can be associated with our wives, daughters and sisters, a pure, moral atmosphere must prevail. There is no religious element in our bonds, and no reference to the subject is al lowed. We tolerate no discussion about nationality, for we are all fel low-citizens of one glorious Union. The grand cardinal principle that governs us, is a thorough loyal ity to the laws of our country, and our resort for the redress of all wrongs is to the ballot. We realize the fact that many of our leading politicians and capitalists have used aft their endeav ors to plunge this free government in to a whirlpool of revolution, and re duce the mass ofthe people to a con dition of serfdom, while they enrich themselves by plundering the ruined. Our remedy is in our loyality to the law and devotion to the Constitution of the United States. No politician or speculator can ob tain our recognition, and we subject all applicants to a most rigid exami nation, even belore their names can be formally proposed for acceptance. Our secrets are so arranged that a word changed will confound a traitor thrust from our fellowship. There is absolutely no chance for treachery to escape our detective system. We co-operate in all business mat ters, especially in the matter of pur chasing, whereby the extortionate profits of agents and middlemen are saved to us. In this we have already experienced enormous benefits, but the greatest conquest of all, is the feeling of security that wo have in our order a united and rapidly growing strength. In the large cities we have a total of sixty-nine lodges and a to tal membership of over eight thou sand persons. Our National Lodge was organized in this city, Oct 7th, 1873, and General Deputies were commissioned to organ ize new lodges, for which there has thus far been an average of forty ap plications per week. We are working for results similar to those declared by the " Order of the Patrons of Husbandry;" but, unlike • .them, we exclude none from us be cause they are not of our peculiar trades or occupations; all who are our friends we welcome to our fellowship. All we aek ia fair treatment, and We ahall show our might by our right! There is danger of anarchy, famine, and even of bread riots in this coun try, and we proclaim ourselves against all oppression, all outlawry, all con spiracy. Our feelings, as intelligent men, nave been aggravated at the spectacle presented this day, in the Meat fruitful country kt the world, of millions of honest Patrons of Hus bandry, who, by the sweat of their brows and the drudgery of years, have made the western wilderness bud and Maaaoaa j|ka the rose, and yield almost lDeShaneMbk* treasures of golden Anfoot be rewarded for their labors. The grain lays piled in .-»"ST1 him . miipti .nxti H »•>■*»! Los Angeles Daily Herald. masses in granaries, or Is consumed ns fuel, while millions of Patrons of Industry in the large towns and cities of tho East are thrown out of employ ment, are threatened with starvation, and crushed in helplessness; willing, but unable to get work or food! What a spectacle! The honest, earnest, hard-fisted toilers of the nation, whose interests are identical, bat are hope lessly separated by an impassable gulf created by their common enemies, the merciless monopolists I The situation is, simply, millions of money against millions of men! Heaven help the mass of the people to realize the duty of the hour. We, of this Order, have resolved to stand by each other in our mutual Interests, to dethrone the monopolist's aristocracy, and to have good and honest free men to rule over us. Money cannot buy our loyality. Those who wish to know more of us can address, Yours, most sincerely, J. H. Brown, Sec. Nat, Lodge, Patrons of Industry P. O. Box, No. 1,839, N. Y. GRANGERS' LINES FOR FRIEGHT TRANS PORTATION. The most practical step taken to *vard a solution of the railroad prob lem is that inaugurated by a number of Illinois farmers, who have organized a "Mutual Trasportion Company," to build their own cars and carry their own grain, en the same plan as the "fast freight" lines hitherto in opera tion. The first road to agree to trans port their cars on the same terms as other dispatch companies was the Chi cago, Alton and St Louis line, but it is expected that others will readily enter the arrangement. The formation of other "Grangers' lines" is also being talked of in Wisconsin and lowa. The system is an excellent one; but it ia a matter of very serious question wheth er all its advantages can be realized by its originators or even its existence maintained, without there are legisla tive provisions controling the railroads much more rigidly than any now ex istent. It is well known that almost, if not quite all, the various "fast freight" lines are owned and managed by railroad officials. The result is that the shipper who desires his goods or produce to get through in any rea sonable time must not only pay the high railroad freights, but, in addition to these, a heavy black mail to the same officials, under another title of association, for the rights to which his former payment should entitle him. It is not to be expected that these offi cials will voluntarily resign a large portion of their enormous profits to en courage the active operations of rival and independent companies. Until there are laws prohibiting discrimina tion in freights and those laws are vigorously enforced, the Grangers need not feel surprise if their private cars are subjected to unceasing accidents and delays to such an extent as to rob them of theirfanticipated usefulness. Nevertheless their movement is a good one. The greater the amount of united capital and interest involved in a contest witli railroad power, the more certain will be an early settle ment of the vexed questions of the re spective rights of the people and of corporations. This settlement can in no other way be more hastened than by the new prominence given to far mers' grievances in the inevitable con sequences of the introduction of such lines as are now proposed—conse quences to which we have already directed attention. No railroad officials should be per mitted to own any interest or receive any profit from dispatch companies, and it seems indeed as well that there •hould be an entire abolition of the "fast freight" lines, as evident recog nitions, of undue preference exercised by railroad companies in the forward ing of freights. This is one of the measures respecting railroads which, it is stated, will be urged this winter in our Legislature and probably before Congress also. The President yesterday nominated John H. Moore for Postmaster, at Salt Lake City, and Thomas W. Abraham for Postmaster at Ploche. MISCELLANEOUS. FARMS! ORCHARD LANDS! TOE FINEST MESA LANDS In Loa Angeles County.
