Interview* with a score of the leading business men of the city reveal the fact that the better classes heartily approve of the seuding of troops to the State. For weeks merchants have refused to fill orders from planters ami dealers, owing to the irequaiit outbreaks and the insecurisy of life and property. Closed at Last New York, Sept. s.—The office of U. S. Secret Service in this city is closed and transferred to Washing ton. Chicago, Sept. 7.—The New York Journal of Commerce says: Spring grades of wheat are in liberal demand, principally for export, with prices two cents higher, more especially on the latter grades, with lighter offer ings and market strong. Spain. London, Sept. 7.—A Madrid special says that Moriones will be appointed Commander-in-Chief of the army and Marshal Serrano will be styled Gener alissimo, with power to appoint a Gen eral. The Carlista, London, Sept. 7.—The Carlists at Genterair fired on the German gun boats Nautilus and Albatross, and they replied with shells sent Into the town. ' • The Grand Jury has ignored the bill against Charles De Young for as sault on Napthaly with intent to murder, but County Judge Stanley re committed the complaint to the next Grand Jury. Over eleven thousand persons vis ited the Fair Saturday afternoon and night. The Bay District Association's new race course was formally opened on Saturday. A large crowd was present and the track was in splendid condi tio' ll ' , A fire here last night destroyed the residence of Mrs. Carlton. Loss about $2,000. The Bay District Fair will open to day under the most favorable auspices. Los Angeles Daily Herald. In addition to a splendid exhibition of blooded stock, there will be two inter esting racing contests—the first a run ning race for a purse of $1,000, for which Carrie Simon, Monte Christo, Osceola and Nell Flaherty are entered, and a trotting race for $1,000 for which are entered Flora Emmet, Oakland Maid and Lou Whipple. The steamer Colima, from China and Japan, due to-day, has not yet tele graphed. W. C. Ralston gnve a banquet Sat urday night at Belmont to J. P. Jones, Wm. Sharon and a largo party of other prominent politicians and capi talists of the day. Tlie weather is cloudy, close and sultry. The Benton Democrat says: We learn that the Commissioner who has lately made an examination of affairs at Siletz Agency will recommend the removal of the Indians to the Grand Rone Reservation, and opening Siletz Reservation to settlement." Dr. Welch, of Oregon City, in com pany with the Kinney brothers, of Salem, proposes to erect a large ware house on the Columbia, about two miles above Astoria, for storing wheat and using the building for putting up fish.
