When he return ed the amalgam retorted, tlie bosses were not satisfied with the quantity, and at once concluded he had stolen some. They took him away over to the South side of Stone creek and tried the experiment of hanging him up by the great toes. He remained thus suspended until he was nearly dead. He brought suit against his inquisitors in a Justic's Court, but af ter the case had progressed a day or two he departed and could not be found. This, of course, brought the actiou to a standstill. Enough had been elicited, however, to warrant a fine, and the court assessed them $100 each, there being three persons ar rested. — LOS ANGELES CITY Homestead Association!
