Sherman Chapman, aged ten or
twelve years, son of Joseph Chapman
of DimondSprings, El Dorado county,
accidentlly shot himself in the mouth
last Thursday morning while herding
sheep at Sugar Loaf Ranch, near Log
town. The accident proved fatal.
An eldeily woman named Mrs. Jane
Camon was found dead in her dwell
ing in the northern part of Stockton
on Monday afternoon, under circum
stances which lead to the belief that
she must have died in an apoplectic
fit at least a week ago.
Last Monday morning, H. Warner
field, a highly respected citizen of
Bishop Creek, was found dead in a
field. An inquest was held, and after
n2ioßt mortem examination by Dr.
Middleton, it was decided that a tumor
about the heart was the immediate
cause of his death.
Wash Porter, of the firm of Porter
Bros., fruit dealers, Chicago, has re
turned to the Santa Clara valley to
look after the fruit crop this season.
Last year Mr. Porter forwarded over
80 cars loaded with fruit from this
vicinity, paying over $40,000 to the
railroad company for freight.
W. D. Bourne met his death in a
strange manner at Panamint recently.
In attempting to catch a donkey the
halter around his neck lacerated his
hand. The animal had sore eyes, and
some of the virus getting into the
wound caused inflamation. which in a
short time resulted in the death of
Emil H. Hendach has located a
slate quarry, covering an area of forty
acres in Calaveras county, three miles
West of Copperopolis. The samples
produced in tne Bulletin office were of
good quality, and if they are free
specimens of the whole quarry, Cali
fornia will have no need In the future
to import slate.
