July 6th.] A child was born in rinn Rafael on the 17th of June, 1875, who spoke in two hours after his birth, and died, prophesying as follows: "That Pius IX, born atSinigaglia on the 13th of May, 1792, would probably cease to ex ist in the year 1876, ami that the elec tion of his successor would involve all Europe in a general war." The venerable Father A. TJbach, of Sun Diego, has lately visited this place, improving the time while he remained here iv the practice of his religious functions. For more than eight years past this worthy ecclesias tic has occasionlly visited tlie villages and ranchoa of our frontier at his own cost and expense. At times he trav els over three and four hundred miles, as when he goes as far as Santelmo, Santo Domingo nnd El Rosarto. The subventions he receives through mar riages, baptisms and funerals is only that which is voluntarily tendered by those interested. For each and every one of these acts Father Übach has be come a necessary being for us, all the more creditable for his acts are spon taneous and gratuitous. Our object is simply to thank him for the fre quent favors bestowed on us, antl manifesting to him the pain we feel whenever he absents himself from us. The Mexican Congress has declared in favor of devoting $300,000, by a vote of 112 to 4, for the part Mexico shall take in assisting at the centennial at Philadelphia. The remains of the lamented Presi dent Juarez and his wife have beeu re moved from the sepulchre of the fami ly to the temporary niche which shall contain them until the monu ment which a grateful people dedicate to the redeemer of their couutry is finished. The Mexican Congress has voted $50,000 for I he erection of a monument to the memory of Miguel Hidalgo, he ro ofthe revolution of 1810; also made known the terms of the grant for lay ing a cable between Cuba ami Mexico, and approved the concession for the construction of a railroad between Guaymas and Arizona. San Diego Items. [From the World, 12th Inst.] Over the mesa to the San Diego, we notice that the bee feed—the sage, the buckwheat, greesewood aud the sumac —aie fast becoming too ripe for ad vantage in honey making. The crop of olives at tho Misson will not be a full one this year on account of the drought, and Mr. Davis tells ill that the trees have not promised a smaller yield for years. It is stated to us that there is a re port, started and circulated no doubt, by interested parties, that the World its to be discontinued at the end of this canvass. It is perhaps etioug'i to say tout there was no canvass on hand when we procured the paper, and that we mean to continue it. There is to be no eclipse of the World. It is to move right along, regularly aml dem ocratically. Venus may transit, and the smaller stars emigrate, as did the Pleides, but everything revolves around the World, even to the Npw" York&uti; V.care not quite certain but llial we shall enlarge the World, so it may have room to eclipse or be eclipsed, get up or go down, hut at present the paper, if it knows itself, is here for keeps. - ■eVijaV ji >»«■• In Placercounty there are twenty eight saw mills, twenty steam power and eiKR-t water power.
