THE WALLACE MINER Vol. I, No. 6 WALLACE, IDAHO, THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 1907 Five Cents a Copy Whole Bottom of Shaft in 17 Per Cent Carbonate Ore THE shaft on the Ambergris group, which adjoins the * Hercules mine on the northwest, has just broken into a big body of carbonate ore. For the last five feet the whole bottom of the shaft has been in this stuff and an average sample gave values of no less than 17 per cent, in lead. _ ... The shaft « now down 200 feetand « being sunk as rapidly as possible with three eight hour shifts. The work is being done by Al. Page and Andy Devlin of Ward ner and Mayor Herman J. Rossi of Wallace, who nave a bond on the control of the property which re IftL them 40 d ° 275 feet 0f Shkh = and2Mfeet an mi7 a , ' i The Ambergris has the same surface characteristics as the Hercules and has always bom esteemed a most likely mine. Its property consists of three groups of claims, numbering seven in all. The group on which work is now progressing and in which the strike has just been made is the Ambergris group proper, the shaft being on the claim of that name. This group consists of three claims adjoining the Hercules group on the north. The other two groups owned by the company are on the line of the L. & It. ledge. The principal owners of the Ambergris are United States Senator W. B. Heyburn, W. Clayton Miller, gen eral manager of the Federal company, and John P. Gray. , FINE SHOWING IN ALAMEDA. No. S Success Tunnel Just Breaking Into Alameda Ground. The work that is being done just now by the Alameda company makes the prospects of that property look very promising. As is well known to readers of the Miner they are ex tending the No. 2 tunnel of the Suc cess mine into the Alameda ground and it would take a survey now to determine which company's ground the workings are in. the south ledge of the Success mine and about 15 feet north of the gran ite contact. The full face is ledge matter, literally seamed with ore. The ore occurs for the most part in stringers an inch or two in width but even the quartz between the string ers carries good values in lead, zinc and silver. The company is controlled by Mayo, Sachs ft Co. of Butte. O. H. Linn, superintendent of the Success mine, is In charge of the develop ment work which is being prosecuted with power drills. They are in Nine Mile Cuts Blind Ledge. The crosscut from the main work ing tunnel of the Nine Mile company has not made as rapid progress as was hoped for, but it is now 50 feet long and has cut a blind ledge, six feet wide, of solid iron. The signifi cance of this ledge is not understood. It appears to have no relation what ever to the ledge opened in the up per workings, which is still about 100 feet or more ahead and which showed a splendid body of concen trating galena ore. Cuba Looks Well. The lower tunnel on the Cuba Is now following the porphyry footwall of the ledge and shows a full face of quartz which shows only slight mineralization at present, but which nevertheless assays fairly well at all times in both lead and silver. The tunnel is now in nearly 400 feet and another 100 feet of work should reach the beginning of the ore shoot developed by the upper tunnel. The Eureka Group. The tunnel on the Eureka group Nine Mile creek is now in 600 feet.. It has been run on one of the ledges which traverse the company's property for Its entire length but has not yet developed any ore of The surface is now on commercial value, showings indicate that it nearing the junction point of two yelns and may have a different story to tell any day. Antimony In Demand. In response to urgent requests from eastern antimony consumers the Stanley mine at Burke has ar ranged to ship another carload of antimony ore next week, be as rich as its predecessors but it will be sorted from second class ore to average 85 per cent antimony or better. However, the ore was not In sufficient quantity to be of com mercial value, being scattered all through the ledge and occurring in bunches. After striking the supposed hang ingwall drifting was continued along that wall 125 feet without any change in the formation. A crosscut tunnel was then start ed and driven in a southerly direc tion, which Is at the present in 44 feet, crosscutting through the sup posed hangingwall four feet, in a black substance, which assayed 0.21 ounce gold, 2.1 ounces sliver and 1.3 per cent copper, total value $12.12; then crosscutting for 40 feet through groundup white quartz' and lime rock. One assay of this substance brought 0.19 ounce gold. 2.6 ounces silver, value $5.36. It is almost sur rounded by the holdings of the Federal company. Itison Grouse ledge, adjoining that claim on the east and ly ing betwen the Morning on the north and the You on the south. It has been considerably developed by workings on its own ground and through the Fanny Gremm on the east. But its most important development is by means of the Morning No. 5 tunnel which cut its ledge at a de P th of approximately 1000 feet, showing a 12-foot vein of high grade milling ore. Whether the No. 6 tunnel of the Morning 1000 feet dee P er > P assed throu £ h the Midnight ground or not is known only to the Federal people. If it did not it passed just to the west of it.
