THE WALLACE MINER i Five Cents a Copy WALLACE, IDAHO, THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 1908 Vol. 2, No. 4 Ore Assaying from $20 to $55 is Taken Out in Development EVERAL hundreds of tons of concentrating ore, assaying from _. $20 to $55 a ton, have been taken from the No. 2 lead on the Interstate property at a little depth, according to Oscar B. Wallace. V The ore carries exceptionally high values in copper, an unusual circum- j stance in the country in which the mine is located, and is strong in gold comparatively. Some lead and silver are carried. As it is the ore is well worth concentrating for the values it con tains although no ore body has been encountered at great depth. The company proposes to run a lower tunnel this spring to gain 800 feet more depth on the three leads passing through the Interstate. The portal will be on Nine Mile and situated where the railroad When the development warrants it, it 5 can be run right to the works, is the intention of the company to erect its own mill. The No. 2 lead has been followed for 150 feet and a winze . was sunk on it for 50.feet. The present development is being carried on along the third lead which is the same as that worked on the Callahan situated west of the The third lead has been drifted on 200 feet. A second crosscut tunnel has been started 200 feet from the point The management expects to get where the ledge was encountered, into an ore body at any time. One of the strongest leads on the property is the No. 1 lead as The lead is located a few feet in from It is well mineralized and the developed at a depth of 20 feet, the portal of the long crosscut tunnel, surface showings are especially good. The company has a great abundance of saw timber. The timber was cruised some time ago and it was reported that the stand was worth about $100,000. . , The company kas a group of 24 claims just, west of and adjoining the Hercules. The property is reached by the Sunset road. There are two water rights on the claims and grades have been completed for flumes 2,400 feet long to bo built as soon as the mill is erected. Oscar B. Wallace of this city is manager of the property and one of the main owners. *r POWER FOR THE BUCK HORSE Two Drills Will b« Working Within Ten Days Patrick Burke who returned re cently from the Black Horse mine, near Murray, reports that arrange ments have been made with L. The crosscut rtfn to get under the shaft sunk on the ledge in the Panhandle shows four feet of ore at this time. a a been on a a e a a a a a ! j I SILVER CADLE LETS CONTRACT Contractor ha* ?u*t completed 250 foot of tunneling A new contract for 250 feet of tunnel work has been let by the management of the Silver Cable prop erty In Montana. CHARLES DICKENS' BIG STRIKE Has Six Feet of High Orade Galena Ore-Mill is Progressing Rapidly A strike of six feet of high grade galena ore was made last week the Charles Dickens property. This follows up on several impor tant ore encounters made lately in the mine, though none of them be compared with the latest development in richness and value. The miners have been following up a vein of galena ore of ship ping grade, the vein widening out from a few inches to IS inches rwentlv Work on the new mill which supplants the structure destroyed by fire some weeks ago, is progressing rapidly and affairs will be m sue . the new machinery ordered is here that it on can shape by the time can lie installed at once. "We expect to strike the ledge in the next 85 or 10b feet We are now getting stringers of gray copper ore all across the face of the tunnel, and this Is very encouraging. The ore is hard. There is a quantity of water In the tunnel, large streams coming both from the hanging and footwalls. "Another contract is going to be let soon, and It will read 'to strike the ledge.' It Is likely we will then drift on the lead. I believe it is one of the best prospects in the country I got half cash and half stock for driving the present tunnel, but I am willing to take all stock for the next Tontract so great is my faith in the future of the property." Work Resumed on Wardner Property Which Has Great Merit Body of carbonate ore of good size and carrying values in silver as high as 200 ounces is exposed by the development work already done on the Caledonia Mining company's property, one of the well known properties in the Wardner district, on which work was resumed last week. The ledge has boon developed by tunnel and shaft, and in the shaft as much as eight feet of carbonate ore is shown, the width of the shaft and how much larger the ore body may be at that point is not known. The silver values of the ore run from 25 fo 200 ounces, while the lead A values are from 20 to 30 per cent. Two shifts of men were put to work the past week by Manager Charles McKinnis, running a raise of 75 feet from the tunnel level to the surface for the double purpose of ventilation and the installation of an electric hoist. A 25-horse power electric hoist has been ordered and will be set up as soon as possible. It was found in these tests that the majority of the ore ran on an average of 1(X) ounces in silver values. The company is now engaged in building a power line a mile long to connect with the Washington Water Power station at Wardner. The facilities. An excellent showing of ore is be ing made in the intermediate tunnel of the Silver Cliff Gold and Copper company's mine, situated on the Idaho-Montana divide at Lookout and it is expected that the east and west ledge which traverses the prop erty will be cut in the next 20 or SO feet, At present operations are being confined to the intermediate tunnel, but some of the best ore ever shipped from the Coeur d'Alenes has been ex posed In the upper tunnel. This has been driven a distance of about ?60 feet. The intermediate tunnel has been driven about 555 feet and the lower tunnel about 1315 feet. A sur vey of the workings by Engineer George Skuse showed that the lower tunnel had still to bo driven a dis tance of from 150 to 2(it) feet to tap the ore exposed in the upper tunnel. The officers of the company are as follows: President and manager, James D. Young; secretary- and treasurer, Ed. Young, and these, to gether with M. J. Shannon, are the principal owners.
