P il'EWT RIGHT SECURED. BEWARE OF IMPOSITION".| SHEPHERD’S PATENT SPECIFIC OINTMENT, (formerly Judkins1,) Prepared by C. HERETO \S.’ near Frederick town* Maryland. Kichi >kd. Vi. July 15, 18’>0 THE public will be p'ease I to understand that I «r.w the original discoverer of Judkins' Ointment, and sole proprietor of the patent from September. 1817, until the expiration of the aamei but, having connect ed myself with Or. Judkins in the commencement, I permitted the ointment to hear hia name. The term of the patent hiving expired on the 26th June, I have made an improvement in the fame, and taken out a pa tent thereon N SHEPHERD. ijy Imposition having been practised upon the nub lie by a spurious article, bearing the name of “ Jud kins’ Ointment,** the proprietor avails himself of the authority granted to him in his letters patent, now to c«M the Ointment after his own name. Henceforth it will be known ny th«* name of SHEPHERD’S PATENT SPECIFIC OINT MEN l\ (formerly Judkins'.) When I first mpde and prepared this Ointment, and had. in several instance* experi«r~ed its i;ood effects, 1 sent it to several physicians, with instructions in what cases to apply it, who were of opinion that the Oint m-ut would be a valuable public benefit. I concluded that the Mintment would occasionally fall into many hands some of whom would probably undertake to make it, and knowing the difficulty of the process -ne vertheless it might be progated in this adulterated si tuation, as it might in some degree resemble the origi ns) —and in this way its good effects would be oblitera teJ Under these considerations, I secured the origi na' ami certain remedy for those obstinate diseases, some of which have so long baffled the skill of me dical science: 1st White swellings of every description* 2 i Sore legs and ulcers o? ong standing, 3d Schirrus or glandular Tumors, particularlythose hardenedtum >rs in women’s breasts, which oftentimes terminate in uleeiated cancers; 4th Felons; or wuat some people know by tbename •f catarrhs of every description. rv*in« the iointS: 6th Sprains and bruises of every description, or in whatever part situstej 7th Tetters of all kinds, tn this complaint the pa tient, in applying the ointment, must keep the part out of water; Slh Chilblains or parts affected bv frost ft is also one of the best remedies for burns and scalds. It esses tbe pain and draws the lira out in a short time. For inflamed women’-, breasts and glandular swel lings, it is superior to any medicine vet known to the medical faculty. It is much safer than mercurial ap plications, (as it does not contain the smallest atom of any prepiration of the mineral,) because it does not Isy the patient liable to injury from exposure to cold. This ‘liniment has cured sores of many years stand ing. Where it is impossible or imprudent to heal the external sore, in consequence of the t>one« becoming ctrious 01 rotten, it will stop the progress of the caries, increase the quantity of discharge, remove the offen sive smell, and case the pains It cures the worst Felods and Whitlows, on applica tion of forty-eight hours CERTIFICATES. From the Hon. J<hn Coe^e Member of *he House of Re presentatives i i Congress »\ ask.rgt .h, vl*r. h ?2, 1836 Sir—My son having been afflict d fur five years with wh.te swelling, and having applied every reme dy recommen led by the most eminent physicians within mv reach without success, I at length .rocured one jug of Dr Judkins' Patent Specific Ointment, and mide the application according to tne directions ac compsnvlug the *»intmcn», am) state, for the benefit of the affl eted. that before one jug was used a perfect cure was effected. M> son has enjoyed good health eversince. I have no doubt th .t to the Ointment alone he is indebtedi for nothing else was used for more than nine m >nths before the application of tbe Oint ment. Re-pectftilly, Jon* Cocks. Dr. Win Gunton, Washington City. From It P. tV. Batch, Esq Counsellor at (taw, F ede rick Md FasosnicK, Md May 6,18-11 Mr. C Hcrstous -1 deem it proper to state, for the benefit of the public, that, several years since, two of m children were affected with scald head of an inve terate character My family physician, Dr John T. Wilson, of Leesborg, Va. who was very skili.il and ju diciooa in his practice, in vain endeavored by every me ms to effect a cure- At length Judkins’ Ointment w is applied, and the affection was permanently reliev ed. Very respectfully, vuur obedient servant, L. P- W. Datca. From th* Honorable John laltajcrro, Member oj Lon• gresi, dated .V tsttiiioToa, January 2 2, 1829 Sin—It has been my wish, fora considerable time, to communicate to you the good effect with which I h*ve used the Ointment invented by a Mr. Judkins, »:iJ which 1 now understand is made and sold by agents appointed by vourself, 1 have applied this O-ntment during the last three years to every species of tumor *n<l wound, without failure to produce a cure in eve * instance I consider it the most decided and efficii.it remedy in all cases of tumor, be the cause what may { and 1 have found nothing ao good for wounJa of any description it may be proper to a.ld, that the cure of a tumor called white swelling, given over by the mast distinguished physicians as in curable, and which they decided would, withoutampu tation, prove fatalto the patient, was, under my imme' diate notice, effected by the use of Judkins’ Ointment, and the patient is in fine health- His limb affected by the tumor b'emg restored to a perfect state of sound ness. Also that the leg of an aged man whicu had been wounded, and exhibited one dreadfully ulcerated sur face from the knee to the foot, and which, lor more th»n tw i years, had been considered incurable, wasef fectually cured by the Application of Ju Ikim’ Oint ment- 1 mention these two cases, which fell under my immediate noiice and management, as a decided evi dence of the efficacy of this remedy incases of tumor and ofulcersi 1 haveexpe icnced, as decidedly. »he good effect of this remedy in the cure of Felons, and of every species of fresh wound. It seems to me that any one w-io wll observe on the operation of tins Oint ment, n i»t be satisfied as to its beneficial effect 1 can with ihe utmost confidence recommend the use ofthis valuable remedy, lam, sir, very respectfully, Jobs Ialiaiebro. This valuable Medicine, being composed only of vegetable matter, or medicinal herbs, and warranted, on oath, as containing not me particle of mercurial, mine ral, or chemical substance*, (all of which are un* congenial to 111* nature o( man, and therefore destiuc tive to the human frame,) is found to be perfectly harmless to the most tender age or weakest frame, un der every stage ofhuman suffering; the most pi asant and benign in it operation, and at the same lime the most searching out the root of every complaint, how ever deep, and of performing a cure, that was ever offered to the world. This wonderful effect, too, is produced by the least trouble to the patients, by merely swallowing a certain number of small pills, and being called a few exlra time* to the purpose* of eva cuation, with the least possible sensation of pain, or exhaustion of bodily sirength, and without the tear o catching cold, or attention to dress or diet, in any way different from their accustomed habits. ri,u.. mil, purr ull rase*, and i annot betaken to excess Experience, which is the touchstone of all human knowledge, has long home testimony to the fact; snd extensive use of them has already verified its truth in this country. These medicine* cure by purging; and yet the weak, the feeble, the infirm, the nervous, the delicate, are in a few days strengthened hv their operation, because they clear the body of its bad humours, and invariably procure sound sleep. They are the safeat and most efficacious mcnicine to take to sea; preventing scurvy, costiveness. Sec. The Vegetable Cleansing Powders are of great as sistance to patients, and facilitate the evacuation of bad humours; they soften, cleanse, and detach the acrimonious phlegm; are cooling, snd allay the thirst, one, two, or three powders may be taken throughout the d^y, mixed in half* wine glass of water.
