JudkM in the commencement, I permitted the Ointment tonear hia name, rhe term of the patent having expired on the 26th Juno, 1 have made an improvement in the same, and taken out a pa tent thereon. N. SHEPHERD. OC^ Imposition having been practised upon the nub ' lie by a spurious article, bearing the name of “ jud-1i kina' Ointment,” the proprietor avails himself of the 1 mthority granted to him in bi« letter* p*tent, now to :%ll the Ointment after hi* own name. Henceforth it wall be known by the Mae of SHEPHERD'S PATENT SPECIFIC OINT MENT, (formerly Judkint1.) When I first made nod prepared this Ointment, and bad, in *evenal instance*, experienced it* Rood effect*, I sent it to sevendmhysieiana, with instructions in what caqps to apply it, who were of opinion that the Oint ment would be n valuable public benefit. I concluded that the Ointment would occasionally fall into many hands, aome of whom would probably undertake to make it, and knowing the difficulty of the proce*a—ne vertheless, it might be progated in thia adulterated si tuation, as it might in some degree resemble the origi nal—and in this way its good effects would be oblitera ted- Under these considerations, I secured the origi nal and certain remedy for those obstinate diseases, some of which have so long baffled the skill of me dical science: 1st White swellings of every description; 2d Sore lew and ulcers of long standing, 3d Schirrus or glandular tumors, particularly those hardened tumors in women’s breasts, which oftentimes terminate in ulcetated cancers; 4th Felons; or what some people know by the name of catarrhs, of every description. 5th Rheumatic pains ofthe joints; 6th Sprains ana bruises of every description, or in whatever part situate; 7th Tetters of all kinds. In this comnlaintthe pa* tient, in applying the ointment, must keep the pari out of water; 8th Chilblains or parts affected bv frost. It is also one of the best remedies for burns and scalds. It eases the pain and draws the fire out in a short time. For inflamed women’s breasts and glandular swel lings, it is superior to any medicine yet known to the medical faculty\ It is much safer than mercurial ap* plication”, (as it does not contain the smallest atom of anv preparation of the mineral,) because it does not lay the patient liable to injury from exposure to cold. This Ointment has cured sores of many years aland ing. Where it is impossible or imprudent tu heal the extei ’Sl sore, in consequence of the bones becoming carious oi rotten, it will atop the progress of the caries, increise the quantity of discharge, remove the often* sive smell, and ease the pains. It cures the worst Felods and Whitlows, on applica* tion of forty-eight hours CERTIFICATES. Frdmthe Hon. John Cocke. Member of the House of Re presentatives in Congress. U aibihot<», March 32, 1826. I never found their accustomed certainty te vary in their operation and effects until a few months past; and having, since then, been sadly disappointed in eve* ry instance of using them, I began to conclude that you bad made your fortune, and abandoned their manufac ture to mercenary and unfaithful hands. Under this impression, I accidentally saw an advertisement of yours in a New York newspaper, designating spurious imitations from your own manufacture, by having your WRITTEN SIGNATURE to each bill of directions, and that in no instance were the imitations signed with pen and ink, although a perfect copy in every other reapoct. Agent for the ll>geian Vege table Universal Medicines, for the State of Rhode Island. Sib—Gratitude to the Great Preserver of Men com pels me, in compliance with your request, to give a brief statement of a cure, which, I think, I received from the liygeran Medicines. I give publicity to the same the more cheerfully, because thereby, perhaps, I may be useful to some of my fellow.men, who may be alHicted with a similar disease. Ily complaint was called Pulmonary Consumption, and that my real condition may be explicitly under stood, I state, in connexion with the relation of the cure, some of the .symptoms of the disease. In Sep tember, 1832, l caught a severe cold, which settled on my lungs; I was confined to my room about one week, with a fever, attended with considerable cough; my cough soon abated, and apparently, I was regaining my health; when, after about three weeks, in the courae of the night, having returned the evening be I fore in usual health. I found myself ble^d’-ng it the lungs. I had not to my knowledge, received any hurt or strain, to which the cause of this might be attribut ed. I spat blood, occasionally, for four dais; it left me with some fever, pain in the breast, very little ap petite, and withal, very weak A few weeks determined that I waa in a decline I tveeived the attention of the moat skilful Physicians, who often seemed toche k the progress of the dis ease, and inspire the hope of a speedy recovery. But re! ipse upon relapse, and each bringing me lower than the preceding, seemed to baffle all human skill, and warn me of an approaching dissolution. Thus, months after the first attack, a " tubercle” fimall ul cer] broke in the Inngs, after which I spat blood, one day. 1 continued to decline two months longer, whe n I obtained the Hygeian Medicines I had now been unable to sit up a whole day, for four months and a half. My feet were cold and lifele-i, sleep unsound, cold night sweats constant, tongue furred, pulse in the afternoon from seventy-five to one hundred per ini nute, fond produced great distress, appetite verv poor, pain in the breast directly opposite the heart, attended with some cough, .Ac. ike. Such was my condition, when I first became acquainted \v * tb* Hvgeian Medicines I commenced taking Mie i, d cincs, four pills at a dose, and increase 1 the do:e ly, one up to the number of twelve. In about «• (lays, my appetite became good, and fo id produce no distress, sleep soon became sound and refreshing, and in about forty days the symptoms of the disease had nearly all disappeared I took the medicine siaty days regularly every night, averaging about ten pills at a dose; the greatest num ber taken at any one time was fit teen. After this, I took about four doses a week, until I had taken about thirteen hundred pills, when I found myself restored lo health. After I commenced the fl-g ian, I took no other medicine. One year from the first sttack, > wus able to reftitme my studi s in college, wh'-re 1 luve since remained without any recurrence of the disease Hitherto l have been convalescent; and it iny strength is not yet fully returned, I am certain I nave less pains, and am more free from temporary sickness, loan at any time since my earliest recollec tion. fours, With respect, HORACE T. This valuable Medicine, being composed only of vegetable matter, or medicinal herbs, and warranted, on oath, as containing not me particle of mercurial, mineral, or chemical substances, (all of which *r> un congenial to the nature of man, and therefore destine live to the human frame,) is found to be perfectly harmless to the mos*. tender age or weakest frame, uu der every stage of human suffering; the most pi asant and benign in its operation, and at the same lime the most searching out the root of every complaint, how ever deep, and of perfutminga cure, that was ever offered to the world. This wonderful effect, too, is produced by the least trouble to the patients, by merely swallowing a certain number of small pills, and being called a few extra times to the purposes of eva cuation, with the least possible sensation of pain, or exhaustion of bodily strength, and without the tear of catching cold, or attention to dress or diet, in any way different from their accustomed habits. These pills cure all cases, and cannot be taken to excess Experience, which is the touchstone of all human knowledge, has long borne testimony to the fact; and extensive use of them has already verified its truth inthia country. These medicines cure by purging; and yet the weak, the feeble, the infirm, the nervous, the delicate, are in a few days strengthened by their operation, because they clear the body of its bad humours, and invariably procure sound sleep.
