No incident h» recently occur ed in thi< place calculated to interest or amu-e your readers. 11 truth the only motive which has prompted (U.w to take up my pen. i« to point out one of those instances in which w hat was made a matter of gravest allegation against the admi nistration ot Mr. Adams, is far exceeded by the present, without exciting the least animadver sion. This instance of lorbearance in the Whig press, compared with the conduct of their op ponents. is characteristic of the two parties. You will remember, that because Mr. Adams paid a visit to Massachusetts, on the death of Ins father, and one or two of his Secretaries vi sited their residences, after the fatigues of u Congressional session, the Jackson patty nick named the members of the administration, “/Ac trarellinl' Cabinet." It is an old saying, that “one man may steal a horse with impunity, while another is hanged for looking over a hedge ” and a comparison of the conduct of the two administrations, is an illustration of the truth of the saying. What is the practice of the Jackson administration, in the particular in which they so severely condemned Mr. Adam’s? Let us examine. About the begin ning of the present month. The President was away. The Secretary of War was away. The Attorney General was away. The Secretary of the Navy w as away. The Second Comptroller of the Treasury was away. The Treasurer was away. The Commissioner of the General Land Of fice was away. The Fourth Auditor was away, all at the same time. The Secretary of State had previously been absent. According to the liberality which imputed motives for the absence of Mr. Adams’s Secre taries, we may suppose, that Mr. Secretary Dickerson was superintending the election* in New Jersey. Mr. Secretary Cass was regulating those of Ohio. -mi. miprnev t»enerai miner was managing the Herkimer Convention. .Mr. Auditor Kendall w as caballing about the elections in Pennsylvania. Put whatever may have t>een their objects, I merely state the fact of their absence, at the time specified. I leave comments for others.— 1 present the case, that those w ho remember %P«* ar>d notice the present, may see how different, in a certain class of politicians, is pro r—ioH and prod ice. I will now mention another incident, to com municate w hich, I should not have written spe cially. \ on recollect that the President was sometime since censured for sending, under his trank, to Mississippi, the prospectus of a polfti C'i paper, to he set lip at .Natchez, to support his a» ministration. fhe Globe denied the charge, or said that it was done in but one or two in sdOkes Mr. Plummer the Jackson member om . lississippj yet here; bv some it is said, nj?>,n« benefit of one of his privileges. The accounts through other channels, however, are of a different character. The well inform ed portion of the Whig party, in this city, were not disappointed in the Maine election. A sim ilar result, so far as Gen. Jackson is concerned, may be anticipated in Pennsylvania. Of Van Burenism. however, scarcely a fragment will be left remaining. The People understand, that i the issue is now made, Van Ruren. or no Van Buren. In the South and in the West his late 1 adherents are calmly furling up his flag.— I Out of New-York his prospects are a forlorn I hope, and even there, it is now generally believ : ed, they are but little better. ROMAN would respectfully solicit an interview with all who are tin* subjects of HERNIA, (or Rupture.) The best Trusses hitherto in use have only been used with a view of preventing an aggravation of the misfortune. Dr. It. proposes, by the application of Slugner’s newly invented Truss, to effect a radical cure in the space of from two to four months. Those laboring under this affliction, and having any doubts of its application, are referred to the Physicians cl Alexandria and Washington City, most of whom have examined the merits of the insti uincnt. Dr. It. can be found at New ton’s Hotel, until the 30th instant, during which time calls, cither in person or by letter, will meet with attention. The following notices of this improvement have appeared in the Washington papers: “ It is perhaps due to Messrs. Maxwell A Ro man to say, that they have exhibited to tis tes timonials which leave no doubt on our minds of the value of the improvement advertised by them in the Truss—an article, we are sorry to learn, of much more extensive use and necessity than we had until lately supposed.”—A'at. hit. “ We invite attention to an advertisement, in this day’s paper, of Messrs. Maxwell and Ro man. Tin* improved Truss, which it is their ob ject to introduce into use, lias the recommenda tion of some of t he most eminent surgeons in the United States.”—Globe. “ Persons in the city afflicted with Hernia, or Rupture, would do well to call cn Dr. Maxwell, whose advertisement is in our paper of today. The Doctor lias the most satisfactory evidence of radical cures having been made in an unpre cedented short time, by means of a newly in vented Truss. Cases which were considered impossible to be cured radically, have been cur ed in a space of time that surprises both physi cian and patient. Some of the first physicians of the country speak in the most favorable terms of I lie Truss used by the Doctor. We are told that it has not failed, in scarcely a single in stance, of producing a radical cure, where it lias been applied, and carefully persisted in.” sept 21—Gt Telegraph. SITUATION WANTED.
