GEORGIA. The returns from the Georgia Election begin wi com® in. , In Chatham County, in which is Savannah, the Union ticket has prevailed by a considera ble majority over the Nullification. The same result has taken place in Augusta, d it is highly probable that the same will be the rase throughout the state. _ yR.,M Icmatka.—The Boston Gazette says, Capt Briggs of the bark Alasco, arrived at this rt yesterday, from Sumatra, whence she sail on the 27th, states that of all the vessels on [he coast two or three only would be able to foCure cargoes, the crops this season being iroaller than usual, and the English vessels bavins taken away more P°PPer than they usu' a-ly do___— Cholera at HAiiFAX.-Capt. Lane of the brig Cordelia, from Halifax, 4th inst. states that the Cholera had entirely disappeared. No cases were reported on the 4th. __ Beckford’s neitly published work attracts so mucb attention, that we have to day given ano ther extract from its pages. Last week we pub lished some of his sketches of the Low Coun _to-day we add something of what he has ,akl of sunny Italy. These graphic pictures wai please every literary reader. It is officially announced iu the Mud Machine, printed in Washington, and issued yesterday, that 14 the President asks for nothing that is not n-ht, and will submit to nothing that is wrong” _Iwhich original idea our readers doubtless ne ver remember to have heard of before! Since tlie recent14 glorious Jackson triumphs” in Maryland, Delaware, and Connecticut! we understand it is admitted that the cursed “Vigs” are not to be sneezed at. We regret to learn that further and serious difficulties have occurred between the Journey men Printers of Washington and the proprietor of the United S'ates’ Telegraph, which have re tarded the publication of that paper. We are glad to perceive that the “ Boston Commercial Gazette” hitherto a partial suppor ter of the administration, caiue out on Thurs day with a declaration that it could no longer withhold its disapprobation of the measures of the government, and that it shall hereafter “give a decided, manly, but temperate support to the principles of the Whig party—or at least to such of them as we Shall consider beneficial to the great interests of the country. Towards Mr. Van Buren, who is to be the candidate of the administration party f<>r the Presidency, (the editors say.) we have ever entertained an unqualified dislike; and in the coming contest, therefore, this Gazette will be found in the ranks opposed to the advancement of that gentle man.” __ After an interruption of about three or four weeks, we were graciously permitted, in conse quence ot the unexampled mail facilities, and the certainty and expedition with which the mail is transported, yesterday to receive a New Orleans paper of the 23d of September! [COMMUNICATED. J To the Ale randria Independent Volunteers. It having become evident, not only that we are deserted by our Field Officers, but that they have lost all interest in the welfare of the volun teer companies. I would ask, can you, as free men, tamely submit longer to he forced, not on ly to do all the military duty prescribed by law, but. as has been the case in the time of danger, to take your lives in vour hands and your mus kets on your shoulders, and parade the streets In defence ofthe lives, families, and property of the common militia while they are comfortably resting at home with their families, secure from duty, danger anti fatigue? If you are, be it so: but I. for one. am not, nor do I believe you are. Therefore, let a meeting of the company be f illet!, and let ns cease longer to be a volunteer company belonging to the Regiment. I have no objection to our existence as a vo lunteer company,—but let us be volunteers, mastering in our own time; and when we mus ter by law. let us muster as other militia do. I. lor one. think it expedient that we should nave a well organized militia; but I have no i .'M that men who volunteer at fifteen or twen ty dollars expense for their own benefit, should t* compelled to do all the duty. ^ 11.1331. Washington City, Oct. 11, 1834. Dear Sir:—I have just seen the gentleman who first informed me of the enormous frauds lately discovered on the part of Judge Temple, of Vermont; and it appers that the unfortunate man committed suicide, under the following circumstances. He was in the habit of going to the Post Office at Rutland for his letters, and finding one there addressed to Judge-, dated at Washington, he took it out of the Post Office, and told the Post Master he would give it to the Judge, as he was going to see him. In stead of doing so, the unfortunate man broke open the letter—and, finding it was an order from the Department for his arrest, he secretly took his gun, went into the stable, and shot him self through the heart. This statement, I think, may be relied on. Capt. Beall, who accompa nied Mr. Ela, the Messenger, sent to arrest the unfortunate Judge, is returned to the city.
