Norfolk in time to put passengers for Richmond
onboard the Patrick Henry.
Returning, leave Norfolk on Wednesdays and
Sundays, at 2 P. M., taking passengers from
the Patrick Henry, and arrive at Alexandria on
Mondays and Thursdays, at 10 A. M. Passen
(ten for Baltimore can be carried through the
same day.
Fare from Alexandria to Norfolk, SO, exclu
riveof meals, or $7, meals included. From Nor
folk to Baltimore, $$ exclusive of meals; $9
meals included.
The Chesapeake is aneirBoat, particularly
adapted to this route; is coppered, copper-fas
tened, has a strong copper boiler, and is, in all
respects, entitled to the confidence of travellers.
Parties of pleasure anti families will only be

DR. HOUSTON, successor of the late Dr.
John Tiiaybold, Fellow of the Royal Col
lege of Physicians of Persia, tenders his profes
sional services to the citizens of Alexandria, D.
C., and the public in general, and is ready to be
consulted tiKATlS in ail cases of disease inci
dent to the human frame, but more especially in
that virulent and almost yet unconquerable dis
ease the CANCER, as unquestionable authority
can prove the cure of the most awful case which
ever alliicted one of the human family. To
those alliicted with this direful scouige, with
hundreds of others, he particularly refers to the
cure ol JAMES BOND, [see engraving below]

a slave formerly the property of Miss Sally
Griffith, of this city, whose desperate situation,
though for a series of years laboring under this
affliction, yielded to his skill, though it had baf
fled the science of most of the Faculty. Hope
less of relief, in a reduced situation—abandoned
by his friends, and seeking alms of the public,
whose eye must revolt at a sight which would
shock the liner feelings of mankind—at this
time, fortunately for this object of pity, Dr. H.
felt confident that he was iiis Creator’s instru
ment to effect his cure, and is now a living wit
ness oTthe truth of this asset lion, by proper me
dicine, properly applied.
To which, five cases of CANCER, and ma
ny other inveterate sores, of long standing,
might be added—all of which have been effec
tually cured by Dr. Houston, in this city, within
the last four months. Satisfactory reference to
the persons will he given, on application.

For the benefit of the afflicted. This is to cer
tify that 1 was greatly troubled with a most
dreadful sore leg, upw aids of thirty years; that
every thing the faculty could devise was done to
effect ii cure in St. Thomas’ Hospital, in the Isle
of Wight, England, and in the East India Com
pany’s Hospital in Bengal, but without any vi
sible improvement of my condition. I have al
so been attended by oilier physicians, but all to
no purpose. Finally, 1 applied to Dr. A. Hous
ton. and, forsaking all others, 1 confided myself
toliis advice and attention only; and do ceitify
that by ins skill and judgment us a Surgeon, he
has made a perfect cure of the disorder with
which I was so long afflicted.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscrib
ed my name, this 3d day of November. 1831.
