Tiie Mystery Solved.— \\ e have seen a pam phlet purporting to he an Expose of the plan by which the self-styled “Mysterious Lady” through the means of a “faculty hitherto unknown” is enabled to perform apparent impossibilities; and to - gull the Yankees from Maine to Geor gia.” This little work furnishes a Key by which anv person for their own amusement can per form the same tricks, with complete success and at less expense than by witnessing the perform ance of tire distinguished discoverer of theta lent. We have not ourselves witnessed the “extraor dinary” performances of this “ wonderful be ing”—but have no doubt from the perusal of the Expose, that the author has discovered the mode by which this imposition is practised. Some of our good folks have been most egregiously de ceived in relation to this humbug. Boston Journal. A letter received in Boston, from Marseilles, announces the death of George B. Adams, E$»j„ United States Consul at Alicant, Spain, September 10. Mr. Adams was a native of Boston, but bad resided in Spain for the last eighteen years. Captain Vincent, of brig Eliza Ann. who arrived at Boston, from Cape Haytien, brings information of the death of Samuel Israel, Esq. lT. States Consul at that place, which took place on the 23d ult. Mr. Tanner has published “ A Brief Descrip tion of the Canals and Rail Roads of the Uni ted States, with notices of all the most import ant Works of Improvement throughout the se veral States.”—It is embellished with a map of the United States, and several engravings, showing the length, rise, and fall of the princi pal Rail Roads. The Pirates.—The trial of these miserable men is progressing in Boston. During the ex amination, the Atlas says, much confusion took pljce in court in conseqence of an objection taken bv the prisoners’counsel to the interpre tations of Mr. Ba<ilam. H. to Georgetown. It is distant from Georgetown and Alexandria each about twelve miles, and is well known in the county as the seat of the ‘Old Court House. This land is particularly recom mended by its contiguity to the markets of the District, and the facility with which it may be divided into several parts by the roads above mentioned, which serve as permanent and well defined boundaries.
