The first volume just received and for sale by WM. M. MORRISON, who is Agent for the same. This work contains the Text according to the authorised version; Scott’s Marginal Re ferences; Matthew7 Henry’s Commentary, con densed, but containing every useful thought; the Practical Observations of Rev. Thomas Scott, D. D.; with extensive Explanatory, Critical, and Philological Notes, selected from Scott, Doddridge, Gill, Agam Clark, Patrick, Pool, Low th, Burder, Harmer, Calmut, Rosenmuel ler, Bloomfield, and many other writers on the Scriptures: the whole designed to be a digest and combination of the advantages of the best Bible commentaries, and embracing nearly all that is valuable in Henry, Scott and Doddridge, conveniently arranged for family and private reading, and at the same time particularly adapted to the wants of Sabbath School Teach ers and Bible classes; with numerous useful Ta bles, and a neatly engraved Family Record.— The whole embellished with five portraits, and other elegant engravings from steel plates, se veral maps, and many wood cuts, illustrative of Scripture manners, customs, antiquities, &c. Edited by Rev. Wm. Jenks, D. D., Pastor of Green-street Church, Boston; re-edited and adapted to the views of the Baptist Denomina tion of Christians by Rev. Joseph A. Warne, Pastor of the Baptist Church in Brooklyn, Mass. Mr. Morrisox Dear Sir—The Comprehensive Bible now in a process of publication, and for which you are the Agent in Alexandria, I have perused—so far as the time allotted me would permit—with some care, and with no small amount of interest.— With Henry, and Scott, and Clarke, and Cai rn ut, <fcc, Irom whose valuable labors the work has been compiled, I have long been tamiliar: and as it has concentrated and suitably arrang- j ed, all the most important and profitable matter to be found in each of these, and as the Theo logical views which it exhibits, are strictly Evan gelicul, I cannot help regarding it as one of the most useful Commentaries, for families, Bible Classes, and Sunday School Teachers, that has ever been published:—and as such I have no hesitation ir. cordially recommending it. The only thing strange about it is, how so much in teresting and important matter has been crowd ed into such a small space, and at such a mode rate price.
