Mr. Buchanan’s election was officially notified to the Senate yesterday, and he will, probably, take his seat in a few’ days^ We are authorized to say, lhatjhe para ,h in the Frederick Examiner which states St Judge Duvall has w ithdrawn the resigna ' t‘; w hich he had tendered, of his seat on the bench of the Supreme Court of the U. On my way to this city, it was my fortune to lull into the company of a body of gentlemen attached to the administration ami from them I learned that it is not probable that the approach ing session of Congress will be remarkable for any great events, tlvnigli it is very likely that it will be quite stormy. The last act of proscription is to be played; and ill who have not been dismissed Ir on office, and who have " held on to place,5 by tlie coui tf-y ot the Kitchen Cabinet, are to go out be tween this and the •• Ides ol March, and their (laces are to be filled with the faithful and de vout worshippers of t»en :ral Jackson. YYe know of one old and rich firm, of near a century standing, which hastin' th • last few years imp >rted an average of $ t > 9 0<>0 hogsheads per annum, all from the United 6:a’es. And it is expected that the trade will still farther increase in this article, as seve ral «»f the ii>Tm in governments, who h ive tlie monopoly of tobacco, begin to buy their stocks from the Bremen merchants, which they never did he I >re to any extent. It is an astonishing fact that a small seaport situated fifty miles up the \\elser, in the northern and distint part of fWinany, containing only I >.000 inhabitants, and so near to the important city of Hamburg, should, by her own unassisted industry and skill, have achieved this commercial triumph °ver so many rivals contending for tlie same hale.
