In the Chamber of Deputies, on the 12th of May, the Minister of the Interior announced that the King had commanded his son, the Prince de Joinville, to go to the island of St, Helena, and convey to France the remains of the Emperor Napoleon. On this event the Journal des Debats remarks as follows: — “Who would have said twenty five years a po, when England wasdirecting against France the whole of Europe, that the day wassonear alhand when these two nations, reconciled by a new revolution, would rely upon each other for the maintenance of the peace of the world so long disturbed bv their quarrels? Who would have thought that England, anxious to efface a sad remembrance from its annals, would have expressed its desire that the res toration ol the ashes of Napoleon might be come the pledge of ihe permanent reconcilia tion of the two nations? The alliance with England is still farther consolidated by this c vent. In vain do diplomatists draw up trea ties if they are not ratified in the hearts of the people. We may now, however, believe, to use the noble expression of the British Gov ernment, thatuif some sentiments ofanimositv still exist between the two countries, they will be buried in the tomb in which the ashes of Napoleon are to be deposited.” The Constitutional states that the Cabinet received only on Monday evening the des patch ofthe EuglishGovernment, announcing its compliance with the application lor the remains of Napoleon.—The Cabinet, adds this journal, was resolved to take the earliest opportunity ol announcing this pleasing intelligence to the Chamber of Deputies. It says a Iso that Gener als Bertrand, Gourgaud and Petit, and Count de Las Cases, will accompany the Prince de Joinville on his mission to St. Helena, “It is supposed,” observes the Trovers, “that the transferring ol the rmains of Napole on will not take place before October*” The proceedings in the Chamber, when the announcement respecting Napoleon was made, are tints described: — The Minister of the Interior said, c;the King has commanded his son. the Prince de Join vine, to go to the island of St. Helena (hursts of cheering interrupted the sentence)—and to take Irom there the ashes ol the Emperor Na poleon, in order that they may find their last place in France.” (Repeated cries of lhavo.) “Our magnanimous ally,” continued the min ister, “in this circumstance has wished to ef face the last trace of past animosity; if any still existed it ought to be buried in the ton b of Napoleon, The frigate charged with this precious deposit will arrive at tiie mouth ol the Seine, and another vessel will bring I lie ashes to Paris, where they will be placed in the In valids, and a solemn ceremony worthy ol'he country and ol the occasion will lakeplace. Napoleon was legitimate sovereign of this country, and at his return he must reign and command still. His sword will be placed on the monument to be erected in this glorious and silent asylum ol his former 'comrades. For an important monument must be erected, accompanied d'ombre etde silence (verbatim.) The project ol law we propose is to ask a million of francs for the removal of the ashes, the ceremony, and the erection ol the tomb. (Fries ol “Pravo, bravo.’*) M,Ilernoux rushed to the tribune, and pro posed to vote with enthusiasm the money asked for. The president said lie was equal ly inspired by this generous impulse, but the regulations of the Chamber required twenty four hours for the presentation of a new law.— The deputies quitted their seats, and lor a quar ter ol an hour the business was suspended.
