MISCELLANEOISI READIXO. __ SHERIDAN AND PERCEVAL. It is said in a recent biography thgt Sher idan wasonee completely overcome by a touch ing quotation from one of his own poems. It was during the debate of 1S11 on the Re gency, when Sheridan, as a leader of the Prince of Wales’ friends, had been indulging in rhodomontade as to some fancied wrong, in history or poetry; he was replied to by Mr. Perceval* who, alluding to the old king’s ac tual woe and wretched desolation, quoted from Sheridan’s own epilogue to Semi ram is, lines which carried away the House and over whelmed his antagonist:— “Thou child of sympathy; whoe’er thou art. That with Assyria’s queen hast wept thy part, Go search where living sorrows ask relief. Go while thy heart yet beats with fancied grief; Thy lips still conscious of the recent sigh, The graceful tear still lingering in thy eye; Go, and on real misery bestow The blest effusion of fictitious woe.” There are a great many people in the world who will ask, ‘where shall we summer?' and having answered the question to their nrwin i'hoir hankers for the necessary dollars, and go ahead. There are others again who have no bankers to draw upon. For such the question is solved by their necessities. It will thus be seen that the people of this Republic are divided into two classes—one of which have the ability to summer where they please, the other have not. We l>elong to the latter. But we do not envy those who are so fortunate as to belong to the other class. We are content with "our lot, and envy no man his posses sions. There are a great many pleasant things within the reach of poor people—a good many enjoyments, that rich folks do not understand or appreciate. People do not ask a ]>oor man to endorse their notes.— He is not made a bank director to have his life pestered out of him for discounts; he is not bothered with solicitations for subscrip tions to railroad stocks; is never made chair man at a public dinner, or required to head the list of contributors to hospitals, or obser vatories, or tow ard the expenses of elections. He gets his pay every Saturday night, and rests° comfortably under the assurance that bis family, will have bread for another week. Nature smiles just as pleasantly and the birds sing just as sweetly for the poor as for the rich, and the fresh air breathes upon all alike.—Albany AV«/. GRAND EQUESTRIAN FESTIVAL. JAMES M.
