THE PAST. PRESENT, AND FUTURE.
1 can see that I grow older,
And 1 note it day by day,
1 can feel my heart grow’ colder
As its pleasures pass away.
At the tell-tale glass J linger,
As with faded eye 1 trace
Solemn tokens which Time’s ringer
Has engraven on my face.
Rut one moment can restore me
To my boyhood and my prime.
And sweet memories come o’er me
Of that brief and blessed time:
Then 1 hear a father’s blessing,
And l feel*a mother’s kiss :
And again 1 am caressing
One who’s shared with me my bliss.
Who shall say the Past must perish
'Neath the Future's coining waves?
What the soul delights to cherish.
From Oblivion's depth it saves!
Looking backward, on I’m gliding,
Till 1 reach that final shore
Where the Present is abiding,
And where Change shall come no more.

been put in an air tight jar and sealed witli

soon after, and the grapes were not found
