Mr. Buchanan’* Administration* | From the Lancaster (Pa.) Intelligencer. There is a great deal of unnecessary spec ulation among the opposition journals just now, a* to the new Cabinet and the policy of ttie incoming Administration. To all of il,e.e gentlemen we have only to say, keep cO 1 and he patient a few months longer, and v u wiii know ail about it. la the mean time we have republished a portion of Mr. liuchanan's letter accepting the nomination, Irmi which they can lorra some idea of the course he intends to pursue. One thing is certain. Mr. H. will be the President himself; he will select his own Cabinet, and regard less of friend or foe, will pat his foot on every scheme which does not took to the honor, ylory, j no* per ity und perpetuity of the l mo/t. His Administration, we doubt not, will be eminently conservative in all its actions and policy, and in perfect accordance with his great political knowledge, ripe statesman and cautious disposition. The specu lations about the Cabinet are all fudge. Mr. l’». has never given an intimation to a living s >ul on the subject, lie keeps bis own couu seK and when his selections are once made, it will be found that his Cabinet is not ouly a unit, but that tt is also Union a Cabinet. fn o '• V'HCIA 1*. Bills of lower denominations on this bank are also in circulation. Protracted Meeting.—Divine service has been going on in toe Baptist Church of this place, for the last ten days and will continue through the week. Elders Piekiusun and Tyree have been officiating. Lecture to Firemen.—A very instructive lecture was delivered by J. S. Hallowell, on Friday evening, in the Friendship Fire Com pany’s llail, to the members of that Compa ny, and many other firemen and citizens, who were in attendance. The Hydrostatic, Hydraulic, and Pueuinatic sciences were very interestingly expounded and illustrated, by many gratifying experiments—particu larly in their application to Fire Engines.— The undivided attention accorded to the learned lecturer—who (or nearly two hours occupied the stand—fully evinced the satis faction of the audience, on being thus in structed by one so able to teach the trutns of uatural philosophy. The lecture was delivered under the aus pices of the “Young Men’s Cnristian Asso ciation,” and was one of a series projected to be delivered, during the winter, in the Hails of our Fire Companies, and which it is hoped will be numerously attended by the firemen and other citizens. New Water Wheel.—We saw on Satur day, at the Foundry oi Mr. 1\ S. Jamieson, an iron Water Wheel, cast for the Potomac Fiour Mill at Siiepherdstown, \ a. Ibis wheel is the invention of Mr. J. It. Howell, Superintendent of the Pioneer Hour Mills, of this city, and is edled the “Graduated Direct Action and Double Reaction >V heel. It is seven feet in diameter and is calculated to have fifty horse power under six feet head of water. The wheel is perfectly durable, being made entirely of iron, and is so con structed as not to beafiected by Rack water, and will drive two runs of stone. We learn that this wheel receives the ap proval of all Miliors who have seen it, and it will no doubt be generally adopted through out the state so soon as the advantages claim ed tor it are brought before the public. Liukaky Lecture*.—We trust our readers did not neglect to read the communication in Saturday’s Gazette, in relation to the propo sed course of Lectures for the Library As sociation of this place. The course promi ses to be an interesting and instructive one, und the Library is worthy of the eucourage incut am! support ot our citizens, lhe liist lecture will be delivered on Tuesday evcuing next at the Lyceum Hull by the Rev. Byron Sunderland, of Washington: subject “Vox populi, vox dui." The Washington and Alexandria Rail road, was last week, run over by a train ot four cars, drawn by the new locomotive John T.
