A letter to the St. Louis Republican gives the following' interesting account of some ruins re cently discovered in Arizona: A caretul ex amination ot some extensive ruins, found some miles east of Florence, on the Gila river, has heen made. Lieutenant Ward was the first ex ptorer who came upon the desolate remains of .a oooe imposing architectural pile. It has been deserted perhaps for more than a thousand years, and has been crumbling away in the -wilderness. The Apache even never pitched his tent upon the spot so thickly strewo with fragments of the work of a perished race. The principal ruin is a parallelogram fortification. 600 feet in width by 1,600 feet iu length. The walls, which were built of stone, have long been overthrown, and are overgrown by trees and viues. ? In many places a mere ridge indicates the line of the Will, the stones having disap peared benoath the surface. Within the in closed area are the remains of a greater struc ture, 200 feet by 260 feet, constructed of rough ly-hewn stones. In some places the walls re main almost perfect to a height, of some twelve ieet above the surface. Ou the east side of the graoda casa there are two openings ot an oval shape which doubtless served the purpose of windows. On the inner sides of the wall of the palace, lor such it doubtless was, there are yet perfectly distinct tracings of the image of the sun. There are two towers, at the south east and southwest corners of the great inclo tures, still standiug, one of wbioh is twenty-six and the other thirty one feet high. These have evidently been much higher, as the brok en lops and amount ot debris near their base indicate. A few copper implements, some small golden ornaments, ooc being an image of the sun with a perforation iu the middle?and some stone utensils, and two rudely carved stone vases, mach like those found at Zupetaro aod Copan, io Central America, aie all the works of art yet discovered. No excavations have been made as yet to determine fully the extent aod character of these ruins. The ruins are situated io a small plain, elevated nearly two hundred teet above the bed of the Gila. Just west of the walls of the fortification there is a beautiful stream of water having its source by the mountains, which crosses the plain, and by a series of cataracts fail into the Gila about two miles below. The fragments of pottery aod polished stone reveal a condition of civili zation among the builders of these ruins ' ana logous to that of the ancient Peruvian. Cen tral American and Mexican nations. The coun try in the vicinity ot this burieb palace is par ticularly wild, and unusually desolate. No olue to the builders of this great fortified palace with its towers aod meat, has been, or is likely ever to be discovered. One tbiog, however in apparent, that this whole country was once peo pled by a race having* higheT grade of civili zation than is fouud amoog any ot the native tribes of the later ages. But whether this race were the ancestors of tt^a Pimos, or some ex tant people, is not and cannot certainly be koowo. The ruins oo the Gila are another un covered Palenque, another Copan, an Atlan exposed at last to bewilder and confohod. It is understood that these extensive ruins will be thoroughly explored witbio the present year. OLD LOVE REKINDLED. The wedding was that of Mr. Conger, mem ber of CoDgress from Michigan, with Mrs. Sib ley, widow of Major Sibley, United Stales army. She was Miss Humphries, daughter-of Judge Humphries of the Supreme Court of the State ot Ohio, aod twenty-seven years ago was affianced to Mr. Conger, then a handsome, blooming youib. They quarreled and parted. In six months the quariel was forgotten, and they were again engaged. Miss Humphries was protty, a belle, and a flirt. Her flirting propensities did not please Mr. Cooger, aud he remonstrated with her., Being a high-spirited girl, she again aod finally broke the engage ment, telling bim she would never marry him. He left the State. She married and he mar rieu. Major Sibley lived twelve years. There were no children, and at his death she went abroad. Mrs. Cooger lived a few years, aod left three ohildren. In October, weary of Eu ropean life, Mrs. Sibley determined to return to her home in Cibcinnati. Arriving in New York, it oocurred to her to come to Washing ton for a few weeks. Ob, woman, how myste rious are thy ways! Ooe day, time hanging wearily on her hands, sbe wandered (?) to Con gress; of course, never dreaming that in this august body sat her affinity I An hour passed; the debates were prosy &nd tedious. So, gath ering her wraps about her, she prepared to leave the gallery, when there was a tap ou her shoulder. Turning, who did she behold but the lover of her youth I After the commonplace greeting in an agitat ed voice, she made the inquiry : "I suppose your family are with you/" "D.d you not know that my wife was dead?" With tragio start nhe averred she did not. They chatted some time, and, on leaving, she said: "I am at the Arlingtoo, will you come aod see me?" Hesitation ou his part, blushes on her's, aod then in a low voice replied Conger, "I will come if you will take back what you said twenty-five years ago." "I will," she answered, and she wilted. , The engagement was very brief, and the happy twain were united last Saturday morn ing at 11 o'clock. The bride wore a pearl oolored satin brocade w&h diamond ornaments, and looked very well, albeit she oould not look sentimental,-far sbe is not very young, and' weighs about one hundred and ninety-five pounds. -- Cincinnati Commercial A Chinaman entered a store in Helena, Montana, the other day, and walking up to the counter, deposited a grasshopper thereon saying as he gazed upon the clerk with a con fiding look : "He too much hoppee; all hop pee- stop him. You sabbee?" The obliging clerk at once oommeooed measuring off mus quito bar, to the intense delight of the heath co. The grasshopper had been destroying bis garden, and wanting to purchase some rnus quito bar, but not knowing the name of the ar ticle, he brought.the destroyer with him, aod the clerk understood in a moment the ahicle needed. The excavations carried oo for some years by Mr. Wood of the Great Temple of Diana of the Epbesians, have been discontinued. The platform oo which the Temple stood has been uncovered, and on the north side was found a htne kiln, built sinoe the destruction of the ed ifice, and into which much of the sculpture and nimble .work must have been thrown. The wge altar waB also uncovered. nnuea AJvn cHEjrttcjtLS. IMMONS' regulator THE FAVORITE HOME REMEDY.
