Transient advertisements insorted at $1.00 per square, (eight lines or less) for first insertion, and twenty-five cents for each subsequent in sertion. Marriage and Death Notices fifty cents. Obitu uariee will be charged at advertisement rates for notices over four lines extraordinary murder. The London public has lately been profound ly excited by a murder which has attraoted an unusual arnouut of attcutiou oo account ot its strange aud revolting features, and the com plete mystery which surrouods its commission ?and the preceding circumstances. The story of the discovery is thus told by the Daily News of JMonday, the 13th instaut: 4,Au extraordinary case of mutilation was dis covered by ihe pulice on Saturday eveoiog un der very peculiar circumstances, and although the police authorities arc strongly of tbe ppin ioo that a terrible murder ha* been committed, tbe identity ot the woman who is the supposed ?victim is ao open question. It seems that in a house io Commercial road, east, a Mr. Henry VVaiuwright formerly resided with his wife and family, lie carried on the business of brush and haroess maker, and was a contractor to the Metropolitan pulice. He removed from the house in question to School-house lane, Cbing ford, Essex, but continued to have access to his previous residence io the Commercial road, which is now empty. Oa Saturday evening, between 5 aud 6 o'clock, Wainwright, who was walking in the Commercial road, met a boy, whom he engaged to carry two parcels to a cab. The boy accordingly went with him to the empty house io the Commercial road, in front of which a four-wheeled cub was waiting. Io this the boy placed the two parcels which he brought from tlie bouse. Wainwright then entered the cab, followed by a woman, who it has since been ascertained is Alice Day, a dressmaker, residing at Queen's court, Com mercial road. Au unpleasant smell from ?the parcels attracted the boy's atteution, and he fancied something was wrong. When the -cab was driven away the boy ran after it, fol lowing it through' Bishopsgate street, Grace ?Church street, and over London bridge. On his way he mentioned his susuicions to several police constables, who, however, took no ootice ?of the matter. Persistsutly following the vehi cle into tbe Borough High street, he met Po lice Constables Cox, No. 290, and Turner, No. 48, and asked them to "stop the cab; there is bouiethiog the nutter." The lad further said, "I'll have nothing to do with it for a hundred pounds," and then ran away at full speed. ?Such strange conduct iuduced the constables to follow the cab, which stopped near the Town Hall. The mao Wainwright got out aud was ?seen to enter an empty house, known as the 4Tleu and Chickens," No. 54 High street, Borough, of which he had the key. He car jied with him one of the parcels, and having left it in the house, returned to the cab, and ?was in tbe act of taking out the second parcel when tbe constables approached him. On the police insisting upon searching the parcels, Waiuwrigbt appeared greatly confused, and of fered the officers ?100 each if they would let ihiin go. iiuving secured the mau aud womau, ;fche police proceeded to open the parcels, aud in ;tib?ui they found the body of a full grown woiitW) cut into pieces. Neither the man nor the woman with him offered any explanation. They wore removed to the policestation atStjne s Eud,B .rough, as were also the two parcels. The parcels which wtre covered with American cloth jeoemblad peddlers' packs, and on examining them Dr. Lirkiu found no portion of the body deficient. Tbe pieces were in a very decom posed condition, and the medical man was of the opinion that they had been subject to the influence of quicklime, and that death had taken place at least two months ago. The trunk of the body alone was in one of the par cels; the head, legs, feet, arms and hands in the other. Every limb bad been disjointed, and the right thigh bore indications ot a severe blow thereon. At the police station the pris oners were charged with murder. Wain wrigbt did not betray the slightest emotion at his position, aud said nothing explanatory ot the reason for bis possession ot the remains. The woman was also reserved io her manner. She, however, offered a vague explanation to the effect that she met the man io the Com mercial road, and he asked her to accempany him in a ride, to which she consented. "Wainwright and the woman were examined before Magistrate Benson, Monday morning. Meanwhile, it had been discovered that Wain wright's house adjoiued the Pavilion Thea tre. Alice Day, the woman arrested with him, was a ballet girl, and the common sus picion was that the murdered womau was also of that vocation, though oo light was thrown upon the cause and circumstances of her murder by aby discoveries in court or out ot it." A Misnamed Congress.?Good loDg names are imposing things. "National Agricultural Congress" souods well. It brings before the mind the picture of a noble hall tilld with scien tiSc farmers from every State of the Union, all deliberating most earnestly over the advance ment ot that great art that dates back to Adam. In point of fact, the "National Agriculiual Con- i gres6," which has just held a fourth aunual ses- i sioo at Cincinnati was composed of thirty or forty estimable gentlemen, real or amateur farmers, from a few of the Western States, and a parlor at the Grand Hotel was not too small for their entire accommodation. The object ot these con fesses appears to be to listen 10 addresses, and a* no delegate fails to come without ODe, there , are a great many to be beard. It could not. j therefore, be reasonably expected that much time would be left afterward tor praotical ac- j tiou. The addresses cover a range of subjects, not all strictly belonging to agriculture. The only work ot any consequence done by the , "Congress" was the parage of a resolution asking for a settled and uniform policy in the Ioternal Revenue laws relating to tobacco, the reduction of the tax on that article to ten cents a pound, and the removal of all unnecessary re strictions from the trade. Another resolution approved ot the tour water routes recommend ed by the United States Senate committee as proper tubjects for Government patronage. Ooe member urged the necessity of investigat ing the mysteries of locusts and potato bugs, and submitted a memorial calling upon the uovernment to set the Agricultural Bureau to work attending to this. This proposition came iiRut home to the business and bosoms of the RNcultural Congressmen, but they did not ac Pt it, and so the best job they could have o^ rv! remains undone.-iV. Y.
