J Wayward Girls The Baltimore American of to day has the following: "God piiy them !' could be read ou the oountenancea of the people who atood in Justice Sanner's court-room Saturday after noon as Ruby Adams and JtB^ie Moore were led back .0 their cells after a hearing. They were two young girls, decidedly good look ing, who had been found in one of the low? est of the low divea on the Hook, and were sent before the magistrate on the charge of vagrancy. Both were neatly dressed, and looked a? if tbey bad been brought up by fathers and mothers who loved them. They did not seem to realize their positioo until they were escorted back to the lock up. Ruby and Jes?ie, according to their Btory, came from Hageivtown for the express pur pone ci leading lives of shame. Tbey ur tived here on Thursday or Friday, and then went from one house ol ill repute to another endeavoring to gain admittance as inmates. Time and again they were refused, presuma? bly on account of their youthful appearance, but finally they went into the place from which they were taken. Ruby, in answer? ing to a question, said she bad been in a house of ill-repute at Hagerstown once. Jessie, however, hod been in service, which t$he lately loft. Both the girls were under nineteen yeats of age, they said, but tbey looked even younger than that. "What induced you to come here ?" asked Lieut League of Jessie. "I had to work hard," she replied, "and wanted an easier life." She said Bbe was j the daughter of a Hagerstown school teach- j er. Ruby said her falber lived in Hagers lown, She, too, preferred a life in a house I ol ill repute to haul work. Judge Sanner | committed both for a further hearing to? morrow. During the hearing both girls | were very bravo, but when once in their) cells tbey both broke down and wept bit? terly. The girls were brought before Marshal Frey last night, and afterward turned over | to Captain JVrnin, who placed the girls in a cell for safekeeping. The Marshal tele yraphed to the parents of the girls, but had received no answer up to a late hour last night. Should the parents fail to call for their children, the matron of the district, Mrs. MiClelland, will take charge of them and give them a home. A special from Hagerstown saye: "A de? spatch came to night to The American cor? respondent, from Baltimore, asking about i he lives of Ruby Adams and JessieMoore. These two girls do not live hero, but are from Winchester, Va., and their real names are Virginia Harris and Fioia Rainezenburger. They were in this place, at a house of ill-re* pule, this week, and tbey went under the names of Bessie Hamilton and Ruby Moore. Chief of Police Benner received a letter from Winchester about two days ago, giving a description of the girls anr; the photograph of one of Ihr-m, but, after diligent search, it was ascertained that they htd both depart? ed for Baitiujore. Both are very young, and they are i vidently passing under as? sumed nam- s." The following is the letter: WinchnsTKK, Va /October 1G. My Dear Sir -On Monday night two I \oung glria ran away from home, one cf | whom is my daughter, Virginia Haines. She answers to the bame of Jennie. She, in company with the other one, Flora Raine zenberger, are in your city now, but their ultimate destination is Baltimore To-day I despatched my son-in-law, George W. Carl, in quest of them, but for fear he may fail, I write to ask you to at once take steps to npprehend and eend her back to Win? chester, or bold her. and telegraph me, and I will come for her. I understand that Ibey have changed their names, so as to better enable tbem la elude pursuit. Jennie is to be known as Bessie Hamilton, and Flora Rainc-zenberger as Ruby Moore. There is no doubt but they are enticed away by some of the members of your baseball club, who played here recently. They are both minors. They are both small, neat little things, near? ly of the same age. Perhaps you will find tbem registered at one of the hotels or boarding houses. Gso. H. Haines, Winchester, Va. MEDICINAL. HE?&TH AB?
