MONDAY EVENING. JAX ft 1S03. She Photographed Spdjtts.?Mrs. Martha Foster, a spirit photographer, is held at Indianapolis, Ind., but at whose instance is not clearly known. Mrs. Foster says she came to Indianap? olis at the request of William Han? cock, the wealthy manufacturer, for the purp 'Si' of taking a spirit photo? graph of 1 is child, which has been dead several years. While at Han? cock's house, she was called upon by several prominent citizens, for each of whom sue did work. She claim-; that her arrest is due to a young man at a leading hotel. Mr. Hancock was called upon Saturday night at his resi? dence on New York street. In one corner of the room, half parted and strung on wire, were curtains of some black stuff concealing a table, on which were bottles that might contain condiments used by a photographer. The appearance of the room indicated Mr. Hancock's strong belief in spiritu? alism, Mr. Hancock said: ''I paid Mrs. Foster $-"?0 for her three days' work i here, aud altogether she has gotten about $500 from me. She finally got a picture] of my dead child that satisfied me. The pictures were al? ways taken in the dark. Since she has been here there has been talk of fraud. I would give all I possess were I sure that this woman is not a fraud, and that spirit photography is an assured fact. If to-morrow she is proven in? nocent, and nothing is found in her trunk, I will willingly give her Jta!f I possess.'' She succeeded in getting some money from several other people in town, and is well supplied with money. Now Try This.
