report iasued by tho city auditor, tba
durmg the paat fiscal year (page 54)
20,105,900 cubic feet of gaa were eo!d to
u.e cousumerfl and used by the city. I:

city to maintain the plant aod deliver

To this must be added five per cent.

It will he observed from theabote
tbat the muoicipality would receive tbe
t-ame revenue in either caae. Furtber
more, while the 16 candle power, 50
watt, electric lamp, ifl the type in com
aion use, the majority of gaa burnera
consutne only 4 feet of gaa per hour.
Making a comparUon upon tbia basis,
we have the following:
100 electric lamoa conauming 5 kilo
WHitn at 2 cents, 10 cents.
100 gaa burners, conauming 400 feet
of gas at 20 centa, 10 cents.
Iu tbis caae, the city would receive 2
centa, or \ more, lrom the elecjric
lighta, tbau it now doea from a aimilar

Where gaa burnera of the Welabacb

foregoing compariaona, that every elec
:ric light would supplant a gas burner,
but, of course, auch would oot be true
in practice, ns waa clearly ahown dur
ing the Cbristmaa holidays The elec?
tric light would be largely uaed for dec
orative and adverii?ing purposes, a
tield in which there would be no com
petitiou with gap, hence tbe revenue in
tbia case would be all profi'.

Room ihe Marine Band, atationed in

throushout the barquet. The Presi
dent escorted Mrs. Hay, and Mrs. Mc- i
KcKinley went into dinner with the |
