"No amo'.uit of political nianuever

"old guard" leaders says this is part of
their plan to block the supposed ain

The plana being worked out by tlie
Siiernian- Woodruff -Barnes coinbiiia

The anpgeation to endorse Taft for

Queen Alexandra has commissoned
Bir Francis Tosti, composer of many
fanious songs, to write for her the
niusic of a new BOOf which it is her de
siu shotild beeonie a sort of secondary
national antheni. The title is to be
"God Bate Queen Alexandra."
This inove on the part of the late
King Edvsard's consort, which is as yet
known ouly to a few people. is eal
Culated to make a great sensatioii when
u becomea publia lt is an btereetaag
addition to what may l>e termed the
"psychology of Queen Alcxandra's
case.'' Readers are already aware of
her majesty's reluctance to sink into
the relati ve obscurity of queen dowanger
or queen mother both, of wbich titles
are iodeed abborrent to her.
Her objections lo that of queen
mother cost one of the leading _n_I of
London publishers?that of Eyrc A
Spottiswoode?a cotisiderablc suin of
money. for they have been obliged to
ooneiga to ihe diimp heap some
$HHi,iK.K? COpiea of the new edition of
Ihe book of oomimoo prayer whicb they
iaaued imntedaatety after the death of
King Edward. and in which the form
of prayer for King Edward's widowwaa
|iven aa for the queen mother."
Queen Alexandra's commission to
Tosti b regarded as an indication of
her intention to take a eonspicuous
part in public life, and insomequarters
there is considerable speculation as to
how long Queen Mary will acquiesee in
her royal niotlier-in-law's ambition to
keep the plaee of first lady in tbe land.

John J, Evans, pioptietor of tbe
Edginont Hotel, at Cbestcr, Fa., was
murdered last night while asleep BJ his
room. His son Itichard, aged 10
years, was arreated charged with the
crime, and is now in the county jail at
Media.
Early in the evening Evans went to
his room to lic down. As he did not
return to his ollice at the usual hour,
William Nickersun, I magistrate in the
second ward, went to the room occu
pied by Evans to awak ti bim. When
be opened the door he was horrihed to
sc.tlieihc pillow r-overed with blood
and a gaping wound hehind Evans' left
ear. The poliee o'.icials wcro at onco
notifted, and a nhyatcian was .|uickly
sutnmoncd, hut the lattcr reported that
Evans had heen dead for at least an
hour.
Su-picion jKiinted to the son, who
had been about the hotel early in the
evening. Bearofa was at once made for
the boy, and ho was found late last
night at Eiwyn, a small town about
three milea from Chester.
Four years ago young pAans was in?

foothall, and was later sent to the
Elwyn School for Feeble-minded Chil?
dren. He remained there for ft short
time, and raturned to the hotel, ap
parently much improved.
Kccently. however, the boy has been
acting strangely, and the polico ofli
cials state that it is their belicf that the
inurder was conunitted while the lad
was temporariry insane.
