Emporia, Kan., May 15.?When
Mrs. Clayton Childers, of Emporia,
was called to the telephone at 5
o'clock one morning recently, a
voice she thought she recognized

she was sure she recognized the

Brown, of whose death Mrs. Childers
received official notification last au
tumn.
This report afterward was dis
puted, and later a letter came from4
young Brown, dated January 1(>.
This was the last time Mrs. Childers

The E. W. Roce Co., Cleveland, Q.
zoUerris are to be removed from public
administration, buildings, schools and
other official premises in Berlin as a
result of ,the resolution adopted by
the Municipal Counr.il.
The debate on. the mo'tion, intro
duced by both Socialistic factions,
evoked a sharp protest from bour-|
geois parties against the proposed I
iconociaam, especially as Chief Magss-j
trate Wermuth, contrary to expec-1
tntions, announced his willingness to j
accede to radicals' wisfties, declaring j
[ that the walls of public buildings'
I
should only be adorned with symbols
of the prevailing authority of the
State instead of those bygone rulers.
He begged the Council to repose suf
ficient confifdence in his ability to per
form an embarrassing duty with
needed delicacy and tact.
The Democratic Deputies attempt
ed to shame the radicals by telling
them that even the French refused to
stoop so low as to remove the like
ness of the Bourbons and that N4
poleon's tomb was stall a xevercd
shrine.

Winters Coal
We do not know what the price of co?J
wi'l be next Fall^and Winter, as the retail
price is governed by the pricc at the mines
and the ijc:igh:. -.
Our in*?.' istadding of the present program
i.-: that AnLhi'ucitefcoal will advance ten cents
a. t'.'U a month froia May 1st to September 1st,
and although we think this program will
probably be carried out yet we are not sure
oi: thi:>r
We do know that THE MINES CANNOT
PRODUCE, THE RAILROADS CANNOT
ilAl?y aND THE DEALERS CANNOT
,IfA-^?IVE nearly enough coal during the Fall
TT inter monthsto. take care o: ail ordinary
Vr.jjCiicr s demand.
- ? This means that conl v:l]\ have to be
mined, Transported and delivered during the
Spring and Summer to avoid a serious short
age next Fall and .Winter.
We advise our" customers to take these
facts into consideration and order a reason
