WAR-TIME PftOH IBiTiOK f i ? f,1' * : Wilson tc Kill Wat l>ry- Act, is Con viction Here Confidence that'^esfde^.t Wilson' ?jvill proclaim fkmr^biliziaton before July 1, thereby preventing war time prohibition from going into ?effect on that'date, new amounts to a. conviction. This confidence rests upon the 'belief that the President will not submit liquor dealers to the exten sive ini'jry which would bo brought about by compulsory suspension of the liquor business until d2mobiliza tion is declared. Tt was pointed out by various government officials as well as by members cf Congress that the pro hibition act is a war-time measure only, and that should it go into ef fect July 1 it would end automati cally the moment demobilization is declared. This' would leave liquor men free to reopen their establish ments and to sell liquor until Jan uary 16, 1920. when the constitu tional amendment providing for prohibition, takes effect. This ccmftnittee also sanctioned 'the possession of liquor after July 1, provided it is obtained before that date. This means that those fortunate persons who have been laying in a supply of wet goods in anticipation of the long drought may continue to stock up without fear of Federal interference. June 25.?Another of the many clues to the lost collier Cyclops, all of which so far have teen exploded, turned up here yes terday when the mother of Otis Ramsey, a seaman on the ship, re ceived a telegram from New York saying he was "safe in this coun try again" and that the missing vessel was in a Genman port. The navy records show that Otis Ramsey, of Columbia, was a sea man on the Cyclops and he is liste:! as "lost as sea" with the ship. The navy, however, knows of nothing that would clear up the mystery. ?Officials think the message prob ably a hoax, but as they expect to solve the mystery some day they are carefully looking up every clue.
