Laws 's in the Peninsula General Hospital', with a crushed skull, and Gordy is in the county jail awaiting the result of his injury. ? ? Both of .these fanners live near Wan go, this county. It appears that I Laws was hauling a load of corn to market, over an old road through the Gordy fanm. The road, although not a public one, has been used by the public for 50 years or more. Some years ago the two men quar reled over some farm machinery, and have since ignored each other. Yes terday Laws was stopped by Gordy. who denied him the use of the road and ordered him to turn back. Laws, without any show of temper according to witnesses, stated ii was impossible to turn around on account of wet conditions, and said he was going to proceed on his way. Gordy is then said to^ave seized a piece of iron pipe and charged Laws, felling him to the ground and beatiirg him till neighbors arrived. '' An ? automobile- was obta.in.rd and Laws ? was rushed . to the hospital where a ^operation was performed, he'is now hovering between life and death. w Gordiy is denied bail, pending the outcome of Law?' injuries. Laws is single, Gordy has a wife and four children.
