WOULD CLEAR GERMANY Huns Say Austrian 4<Red Book," r Just Out, Shifts War Blame | Berlin; S?.>t. 23.?German news papers are arguing that; the Red Book just issued by the Austrian government proves Germany tried earnestly ^to prevent the outbreak of the great war in 1914 and thaf Count Leopold von Berehtold, Aus trian foreign minis'|:r in 1914, bears the bulk of the responsibility by his "underhand tactics and deception." The belief that Germany can deT mand a revision of the peace terms on the strength of the Red Book is expressed by the Boersen Zeitung, which intimates that the publication of the Red Book was planned to bring about such a demand. The Kreuz Zeitung denuonces what it calls the "inextinguishable guilt of Austrian diplomacy," while several other newspapers praise the courage and honesty that brought about the revelations in the Red Book. 'Almost the orfly newspaper to criticize the German government is i the Tagoblatt, Vhich says the gov 1 eminent in 1914 '*clid not show the i slightest interest in the situation i and acted idiotically," adding that I "Germans in power at that time, played the part of thoroughgoing fools." The newspaper declares the revelations of the Red Book is an "awful disgrace for Germany." ''The governmental incapacity of the Hohenzollerns for the last 30 | years was our guilt, for which we now must pay," the newspaper con cludes. While no official statement has as yet been obtainable in connection with the publication of the Red Book, Foreign, Office attaches, who have been willing to discuss the dis closures, have ventured the opinions that "probably the most surprised [ men who read them will be Dr. The obald von Bethmann-Hollweg, for mer German Imperial Chancellor, and Gottliefb von Jagow, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and possibly Viscount Grey, who in 1914 was British Secretary of State for Foreign Aairs." Wilhelmstrasse believes, however, that the revelations will not mini mize the guilt of Russia, while, on the other hand, they may clear up points relative to the German attitude during the critical days of July 1914, especially her position on Viscount Grey's proposal to sub mit the Russo-Austrian dispute to arbitration. It is declared at the Foreign Of fice that the evidence proves the German Government not only trans mitted Viscount Grey's suggestion to Vienna, but was "insistent in urg ing its acccptance," It is held to be proved that Count Berchtold, ap parently on purpose, delaye'd his DODSON KILLING USE OF CALOMEL Says Drug is Mercury and 1 Acts Like Dynamite on Your Liver Dod'son is making a hard fight against calomel in the South.
