gives us a market for our coal to the lakes—it
runs from Erie to Philadelphia. A large part
of tbo Road has been finished, arid is now in
running order. A heavy force is now working
from Erie towards our land in me western di
rection, the means for the completion of which
has keen rat-el, it will soon be finished. 'The
Allegheny Valley connects us with
New York, Boston and Pittsburg. The Ve
nango Road connects us with the West.
Thero are already good 'i'urnpiko Roads
running through this property, various other
roads have been opened to accommodate the
enrrgration and settlement which has ulieady
taken place.
There is no opportunity equal to it now of
fered to the man who wants to provide himself
a home m an easy way, and make a settlement
where he can live in prosperity and indepcrid

Report of the Committee appointed to
superintend the burning of the Iron
Sufes at Heading, Feb. 2,7 th, 18D7.

The undersigned, members of the Commit
tee, do recpertiullv report, that we saw the
two Safes originally agreed cpon by Parrels
& Herring and Kvuus St Watson, placed side
by aide ir. u furnace, viz: The Sale in use by
the Paymaster of Ihe Philadelphia and Read
ing Railroad Company, in his nllico at Read
ing, manufactured by Ferrets & Herring, and
the Safe in use by H. A. I.HIIIZ, in lite store,
manufactured by ICvuns & Watson, and put
in books and papers precisely alike.
The fire was started at Pi o'clock, A. M ,
and kept up until lour Cords of green hickory,
two cords dry oak and half chestnut top wood
were entirely consumed, the whole under
the superintendence of the subscribers, mem
bers ol the Committee. The Safes were then
cooled off wiih water, after which they were
opened, agd the buuks and papers taken out
by the Committee and sent to li. A. Laritz'e
store for public examination, alter they worn
first examined and marked by the Commit
tee. The books and papers taken Irom the
Safe manufactured by Evans &. Watson wero
but slightly affected by Ihe intense heal,
while those taken from the Sale manufac
tured by Furrels & Hertitig wete, In our judg
ment, damaged lully fifteen per cent, more
than those taken from Kvaus & Watson 'a
Safe.
