The success of our armies ami navies, the spirit of our >oldiers. The opinions ot our officers, the divisions, demoralization, and and financial difficulties of the enemy, a-surf* us that the triumph of justice, liberty, and peace i.* at hand. Every energy should now be directed to pre pare armies for the 1.i.-t desperate struggle ; for lto Schell ion wiil die, u- it has lived, in blood. Especially should those noble patriots who shall he called to offer their blood on the alter of lib erty. be prepared. so far as we can prepare them, for this solemn service, hy Christian instruction and earnest prayer. And when they fall every succor that the love of Christ and of country can afford should be at hand for their relief, nor should any soldier be allowed to die without having the hope of eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ presented to him. and without pray er to God for mercy in his name. This duty the delegates of the Christian Commission perform. In one hunderd and forty chapel tents our sol diers now assemble daily to read the publications furnished by the Commission, or t«» write letters to loved ones at home. and. and every night in the week, aud three time* on Sabbath, most of them being crowded with earnest worshippers, many of whom rise to a-k pv.»v«*r. and profess their design to lead Christian lives. The Christian Commission has no funds in bank, no investment of capital. It’s only rdiance l:a --been faith in God and in God people. This is God s work. He will provide the means for if. Every Christian is His agent. To such we now appeal for immediate help.
