Dan's Ruck —lts Altitude Accura
tely Measured by an Engineer. —The
management of the Georges Creek
and Cumberland railroad has lately
caused to be made, through Mr. .lames
P. Gaffney, iis able engineer, some
very interesting, if indeed not in
structive, measurements to tho top of
“Dan’s Rock," which high point is
now being almost daily visited by
excursion parties over the above rail
road. Mr. Gaffney has found the
highest point on tho rock to be just
2,898 feet above the ocean level.
As hotels upon tho mountain tops |
are now great resorts for tho summer
season, and are rapidly coming into
tho greatest favor because of the ad
vantage of scenery, not possessed by
seaside resorts, it will be seen that
the Kook is an eseeplionahly favora
ble point for tho location of the
hotel proposed to he erected there.
The view is certainly one of the rao_t
remarkable and grandest, of the east
Allegheny Mountains. When it is con
sidered that the Deer Park hotel is
but about 2,5u0, O tkland about 2,400
and Cresson 2,000 feet above the !
ocean level, then will be understood
the greater advantage in height
“Dan’s Rock” has with its almost
2,900 feet.

public we have been kindly furnished
