Tus. eleotion takes place on next Tuesday, the 2d day of Novembor. An appeal to the Republicans or Mower County. The only foe «e.-have to fear in the coming election ia apathy. If every Republican costs his vote at the polls on next Tuesday, there is no danger. We can elect our County ticket by six hundred majority and send our Legisla tive and State, tickets out of the county high and. dry. There is but one great issue involved in the present campaign and that is this: shall we turn the State and County government over to a It forms the honest payment, of our debts, and in the manner as provided by the laws under which theso debts were contracted favors a faithful col lectioq. of the Revenues, and the resto ration of lan andf order to that southern country which is kept in anarchy and rebellion by southern' traitors and.Dem ocrats. The Democratia party has not. advanced a step since I860 It is now as then the bitte* foe- of equal civil rights. It is hand in hand with seces sionists and-is ready whenever, aa occa sion may. offer, to. support any. move ment for the assertion of the superiority of State over the: authority of the Fed eral Govenrment. It nurses sectional pride it excites tho jealousy of the poor against the rich it appeals to the passions and not to the patriotism of the"people it proclaims itself in favor of the repudiation of the National debt, and it is so indefinite as to its Government policy that it has a set of principles 'for every State which is arranged to suit the supposed wishes of tho local' majority, .It ia eager for. place and power only. The voters of Mower county know these things wcllj and we do not fear but they will repu diate this party on Tuesday next as they have done over and over again, in years past. Reform is a favored catchword with democrats always beforo election, it is harped upon by their editors and stumpers, great and small. The pub lic uioney is being squandered, and they are just the ones to stop tho leak the public debt is not being reduced, but increased. This is their tune they are out of oQice and want to get iu. Put them in and tho whole thing is changed. They have not a word to say about economy or reform not a word about the reduction of tho public debt or £the. faithful collection of the revenues. But invariably under Demo cratic rulejthc expenses of the govern ment, whether national or State, are increased. Who ever knew of a demp cratic. administration to reduce a public debt Buy their frauds shall ye know them," and judged by this they have been found wanting. The last Treasury 'Statement is a stagger for the Democratic orators and editors. They are as mum as you please, they can't nnswer it. But it stands right before them, grim and^ugly, in such a solid array their batteries can't mako the slightest impression upon. A decrease of the debt since March 1st, of $50,968,187 90, being an avorage reduction of over §8,000,000, per month under Republican manage ment, is something tlioy were not pref parcd to answer. It is an ugly thing for them to meet just on the eve of an im portant election, and our Democratic friends here arc making all sorts of sour faces about it, since Judge Austin called their attention to the fact in his speech in this city last- Week. We urge every \nan who desires to see the admin rotation of GENERAL GRANT endovsed, and the power of the Repnb lican party perpetuated, to so manage his business as to be at the polls on next Tuesday, long enough to deposit his ballot for the party of Justice and fair dealing. LET every Republican be on hand at the polla on Tuesday next, and vote the straight Republican tickct. THE COMING ELECTION! The Defeated Rim and tieir Followers Going orer totte Disnmcrats! Suicidal Policy for Austin A WORD. OF WARNIN G. The majority of mankind are short sighted. They view everything from their own selfish standpoint and in doing this become oblivious to what is really fr their own interest. Infatua tion is a characteristic of politician# but we are sorry that honor is not. Almost ever since its organisation Mower County has been ruled by a half dozen men, most of these men. have been and are now residents of Austin, To support and enrich- them the people have been willing an$ liberal. They have given thousands, whea economy would have required only hundreds. These men have been gready and mer ciless in their demands.. Their ceaseless cry has been more, party whicih supported the rebels during tho war, and'&trove with earnestness to de stroy our Federal Government, which gives value and strength to our State and county organizations If the Re. publican party since that txnjQ had proved false to the confidence reposed in it, and had bctlrayed itej high, trusts,, and if the Democratic party had given evidence of sincere repentance, we might answer the question affirmatively. But this* is not tho ease. The Republi can party, stands to day in the advancc as the advocate of equal rghts for men of every race as the eneuiy of section alism and State rights, and the sworn enemy of every faction which aims at the destruction of the Union. MORE! They have coaxed, and. cajoled where these would serve the purpose, whilo threats and prescriptions have been their most tell ing weapons. Thousands have been whipped into their traces, and driven under their tyranical lash. Professed friends of the village of Austin, their conduct has been most disasterous to the interests of the town. Once and for the first time these enemies of Aus tin and the people have been defeated, fairly, honorably, aud effectually their overthrow accomplished: by the people. It was the spontaneous up rising of tax ridden citizens. Wise-and honest Republicans would have accept ed the result iti! a becoming manner, not so with the Old Ring, unable to rule they at once determine to ruin. They bolt the ticket and go with the Democrats. But this is not the worst, not coutcnt with working their own ruin they seek to carry the voters of Austin with thcui. How by raising a false and piierile issue about Rail roads and the fact that A ustin ought to have a Representative. We are among those who greatly desired ^Representa tive in. tho Legislature fr,omi Austin but no inducement could, lead: us to for sake principle and, the great Republi can party to gratify a little local, jeal ousy by voting for a Democrat. How dp these old, fossil politicians now sore headed, and almost defunct, care any thing, about Austin Every clement of their, little strength was thrown against Austin in the convention. Note then inconsistency. The truth is they are now endeavoring to induce people to vote for a Democrat simply and solely to gratify theix own personal animosities. The course they mark out, as it has done in the past will be suicidal to the best interests of the towp. Austin can not afford to bo constantly at war with the rest of the county. There is strength enough outside to manage her every time, if she places herself on hos tile ground. Her policy should be to conciliatc. Will bolting the ticket do tliis? no,bjt.on the contrary will make the war more bitter. In their mad ca reer this- old ring are determined, to ruin the town, sjpdl every Republican that votes for a Don ocrat nest Tuesday helps them on. i»- their work to ruin. We warn the Republicans of Austin to be wiiie for the future. Dont throw away your votes upon a Democrat and dig your own political graves doiug it. The Elections. Pennsylvania, Ohio and Iowa have endorsed the Administration of Gen. Grant, Minnesota will follow suit on next Tuesday. Let every vote be polled and victory is certain. A full vote is a full victory. REPUUMCANS of Austin Rally to the polls next Tuesday Roll up such a majority as has never been seen be fore. Don't go for the ring by voting for a Democrat. Look out for Republican tickets with Democratic, names on them. READ your tickets and scratch off all names of Democrats and bolters. WE are credibly informed that Ite •Dubliqaa tickets will be in circulation next Tuesday, with the names of G. M, Ciiiuerou and Chas. Paddock Democrats o^ them. Throw away such tickets. The Regular Nominees. We give below the names of the reg ular nominees of the Republican party in this County. Let every voter ex amine his tickct and see that {it is straight. For Treasurer—JOHN S. IRGENS. For Representatives—"W. O. TELFER, II. A. BROWN. For Clevk of the District Court—JOHN F. ATUERTON. was^gaged For Oourt Commissioner—E. 0. WHEELER. Throw away every tickct that con tains the name of Sherwood, Cameron, Wyckoff or Paddock. All such are spurious and fraudulent. Do not be deceived or gulled by the Demoorats. Vote for the regular nom inees of the Republican party. Another Sell. The Ring sold their party, their friends and the people of Austin a year ago, and elected a Democrat Register of Deeds. This year they are- again up to their old tricks. They dare not bolt openly, but they do what is very much more disgraceful. They are secretly endeavoring to sell the Republican party to buy votes for the little insig nificant bolter, L. A. Sherwood. They promise all Democrats who will vote for this whisky distilled tool of the ring, that they in (turn will vote for Wyck^' for Treasurer. Drowning men some times do meaner things than to catch at straws. THK candidates of the Republican party are all men who are well qualified to discharge the duties of the office to which they have been nominated, and will do it, the disaffected to the con trary notwithstanding. Clerk of the Court. L. A. Sherwood has been clerk of the District Court of this County about eight years. During this time, as every lawyer in the County knows, he has habitually neglected his duties and transacted the business in a most ineffi cient manner. He is a in such dirty work. But what claims has he to ihe office ?. None at all. lie pleads poverty and weakness. What bare-faced.impudence to ask an office of tho people of Mower County on the ground" of poverty! Has it not already cost the County thousands and thousands of dollars to support and enrich this cla.°s of n.en If there are any others who claim sub sidy of this description let them be sent at once to the poor farm and not be quartered upou a public office. It might not be amiss to ask what has im poverished this alms seeking bolter A true solution may be found in the causes which, ledj tp the-early decay and death, oft Lprd Byron-. N.o-«rMoWcr County has no further use for this class of office-scckers. No true Republican will cast a ballot with L. A. Sherwood's name on it. The Railroad Dodge. The sore heads of Austin are trying to induce Republicans to vote ior Mr. Cameron the Democratic nominee for Representative. The argument usediiath^tMr. Bapw-u, is intecestpd, in having the Southern Minn.,11, R.,.go to &ownsdnle and his acts, will consequently be unfavorable to Austin. Now, gentlemen of the Republican party, just stop and ask what you arc to gain provided you could do an impossible thing, and elect Mr. Cameron. He is more deeply, interested in having that road go to Br.ownsdale than almost any other man and has so expressed him self within the last year Nearly the whole of his property outside of a little homestead in Austin, consists of land near Brownsdale. The advantage to him of having a road to that point, would, be ten times what it would if it run to Austin W molfsinccrely hope the Republi cans of Austin will not be duped to throw away their-votes by such subter fuge. A Lie Nailed. Some malicious member of the little sore headed old ripg lias started the story that Mr. Atherton the nominee for Clerk of the Court is not a resident of the State. This is a willful false hood, Mr. Atherton has been a resident of Mower county several years, his property is here, his family resides here, and has for three yeara past, their only absence having been for a brief visit during the present summer. The Re publicans of this-couyty intend to elect Mr. Atherton by an over whelming majority. His only unfitness.for office is that lie never joined tba old ring TIIK old Ring felt at home with Democrats and will naturally vote that ticket. How eutbusiastic for the ticket is the Mower County Countn Mvan VOL. 2. AUSTIN, MOWER COUNTY, MINN., THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28,1869. NO 29. THAT this man or that man is going to have his hands in the publib crib is only for the purpose of misleading tho voters. Do not believe any of,the elec tioneering stories gotten up on the eve of election by sore-heads and Democrats. Vote for tho whole ticket. EX-PRESIDENT ANNDREW JOHNSON was defeated for the United States Sen ate on the 5th, inst. Mr. Cooper a strong uniot man during the war, and a true Republican now, scooping him high and dry. No Surrender. Geo. Alderson Has removed his stock of goods from JVliU Street to the stand recently occupied by N. P. Austin* on Main Street, and invites special attention to his choice selection ©f FAMILY GROCERIES, •CROCKERY, DRY GOODS, Ring man to the back-boue. He swears by Allen, Smith & Co., and will do anything to serve them. He went into the convention and was fairly defeated. Now ho comes and tries to beg and steal an election by scattering tickets broad-cast over the County with hi?, own name in place of the regular nominee. This act alone is sufficient to condemn him and should deter any honest man from supporting him.
