I do hereby, appoint THURSDAY, the said 18th of November next, as a day of Publie Thanksgiving in this State. I recommend to all the people the observance of the day, in accordance with the good custom of our fathers, and as becomes a christian people. Devoutly acknowledging the goodness of God, let us enter into His gates with Thanksgiving, and into His courts with Prase be thankful unto Hun, and bless His name Given under my hand and the [L. B.J Great Seal of the State, at St, Paid, the day and year first above named. WM R. MARSHALL. By the Governor: H. ROGERS, Secretary of State, The Election With the exception of New York and New Jersey all the State holding No vember elections have given increased Republican majorities, the demo cratic vote, in New York alone, has de creased over thirteen thousand. There is a very light vote in all the States. The Legislature of Now York is the same as last year.' 77 Republicans, and 71 Democrats. The peoples tieket was elected in Chicago by 5,000 majority half are Republicans, and the other half Demo crats. The peoples ticket was suppor ted by all the daily papers, except the Post. The Mate Election. The returns come in very slow, and we are yet unable to give the exact Re publican majority. Enough has been received to warrant the election of the entire Republican State ticket by at least 6,000 majority. Judge Austin will run behind his ticket from 800 to 1,000. Dunn is defeated for Judge of the Sixth District by a large majority. In Winona County Buck is elected to the State Senate over Simpson the Repub lican nominee. Buell, democrat, is elected Senator. A Democrat is elec ted to the House from Dakota County, also from the Anoka district. Bolting seems to have been the order of the day all over the State and in almost every instance has proved dis astrous to the Republican candidates. A few more such strikes as these will perhaps open the eyes of the Republi cans and learn them wisdom. The District Blectaoa. Hon. Samuel Lord is elected Sena tor in the 15th Senatorial District, composed of the counties of Dodge and Mower, Jtnd G. M. Cameron and L. E. Peace, as Representatives in the same district. Mr. Lord is the regular Re publican nominee, has served the dis trict once before in the Senate, and is a true and tried-Republican. Messers Cameron and Peace are both copperheads of the darkest hue men of small calibre, an& 11 far short of representing the talent of their party in this District, consequently they will make poor representatives and can only injure the Republican party so far their vote goes, which, thank fortune will, only count two. They can thank the old Court House Ring for their election. False issues was raised, and every low, mean, dirty, electioneering lie that could be thought, of by this. Court House fraction was brought against Mr. Telfer and Brown and. to their shauie be it said, over one hundred Republicans swallowed the dose prescribed by Smith, Allen & Co., and voted the Democratic ticket. By this little piece of Political chi cancry. two of as good Republicans- as there if in the county was defeated and two pbor democratic sticks elected. Let the responsibility fall where it be longs. And we are mistaken if the re publicans- of this District, or the county surely, will not hold Allen, Smith and the Court House- Ring responsible. County Election. As we staw?d l-rt week tbe old Cor rupt Ring went ovef to the Democrats on Tuesday last and voteu the entire democratic ticket, substitute" Sherwood, one of the most dishonest anu debased of tho whole set, for C. J. Paddock, the regular nominee of the Democratic party, but notwithstanding all their bolting and lying, the whole Republican county ticket is elected by a handsome majority. The returus come in very slow, but from what wo have received we are safe in putting, Mr. J. S. Irgins majori ty at a little over two hundred and seventy-five, and of that Mr. Atherton's at one hUndrcd and fifty. These majori ties, although large outer they, each of them are diserving of. Both are good andhonest well qualified to discharge the duties of those offices have always been true Republicans and why persons claiming to be republicans should scratch them, and vote for such a visent copperhead as J. M. Wyckoff, and such a mean, low, drunken sneak as L. A._Sht*rwood, November SEK enough to elect Mr. Irgins and Atherton, arc not near what is a mystery to us and the sooner the party can get rid of them the better it will be off. This bolting must be stopped bolters must be kicked out of the party, or laid aaide where they can do no harm, It is generally the moet corrupt and dishonest persons of the party that are always bolting those who are for spoils, and not principles. All such should be sent to tho Democratic party, where there sympathies always arc, and where their associations best fit them their to be. A party claiming purity for its principles, and honest sober, men for its offices, want no such trash to encum ber it. Eleetiea UDOLPHO, NOV. EDITOR OF 2. TRANSCRIPT. The election passed off very quietly here to-day, with the exception of few minutes. The appearance of one of the muffled-headed old Ring leaders here to induce true Republicans to vote the Democratic ticket, caused a little dis turbance, but it was only for a moment. He soon found that he had got in the wrong pew, and left with an awful whisky scowl on his face. Below you will find the result of the vote in this town: For Governor, Austin 45 Otis For Lieutenant Governor, 45 Wiswell Yale For Seeretarj of State, 45 Fladeland For Auditor «f SUte, Mattson Mcllrath 45 Evans For Attorney General, Cornell 45 Smith For State Treasurer, Munch 45 Baberich For Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Ripley 45 Flandrau For Clerk of Supreme Court, Hugh 45 Bonniwell For Senator—15th District, Lord 45 Couse For Bep resentatives—15th District, Telfer 40 Cameron Brown 41 Pearce For Count/ Treasurer, Irgens 45 Wyckoff For Clerk «f Ike Distriet Court, Atherton 41 Paddock UDOLPHO. The Early Rose Potetoe. The first meal of this variety of po tato we ever set down to was to-day, and we are honest in our convictions that they are the best variety'of potatoes we ever tasted. We had them baked and boiled and they filled both bills to jur entire satisfaction. The great trouble, heretofore, has been with our farmers and gardners, in not knowing where to get the seed, without being humbugged, but now there is no dan ger whatever. Mr F. A. Richardson has them, he brought the seed from his former home, Vermont, and knows they are the genuine Early Ro^e. Mr. A. V. Ellis, and old farmer living near this «illage, and who is well known to many of our readers, raised this seasoi from 301b« of seed Eighty one bush of potatoes. A Kansas correspondent of the Western Rural writing to that paper says: he bought one lb of Early Rose potatoes and planted them the last of April. They were injured a good deal by wet weather, and bor ers working in the stalk dug them 30th of July yield, some over three bushels, planted some of them the same day they did not- come up very well, but what did grow, have now fiue. large potatoes fully matured. A MUTING of the clergymen anc several of the prominent laymen of the Universalist Church was held at Min neapolts, on Thursday last, to devise measures for raising money during the Centenary year. It will be one hun dred years in I8?0, since John Murray preached the first Universalist sermon in the United States. The year 1870, the church proposes to make a year of jubilee—a jubilee of the right sort, since it is in contemplation to raise fund of two hundred thousand dollars during that year as a permanent funcl for the denomination. The State of Minnesoto is pledged for five thousand dollars of that fund, Captain R. Blake ly, of St. Paul, having pledged that amount for the State, before the United States Convention, recently held at Buffalo. At this, meeting, held on Thursday, it was voted to call *a meet ing of the trustees of the Convention, on the fourth day of November next, at tbe Nicollet House, for further con •idcration.—Many suggestions were made, but no definite action as to ways and means was taken at this meeting. It is verv certain that a State mission ary will be put into the field at once, aad it is also certain that a missionary box for small collections will be put into every family. Letter from Albert Lea. From our own Correspondent. ALBERT LEA, NOV. 1,1868. The locomotivc-whistle on the South ern Minnesota Rail Road, so long and so anxiously listened for. has at last been heard, resounding with welcome botes over the glad waters" of Lake Albert Lea. Scores of children, born on the frontier, heard for the first time the shrill voice, and saw for the first time the shining form, of that- great ally of civilization—a locomotive. Old men and women also, who, having passed their better days on the skir mish line" of advancing settlements, are now engulfed by the irresistible tide of immigration, mingled with their grandchildren in wonderment at the novelty. And many, to whom the sound of a steamwhistle "had been a stranger, or a variety £for years, heard the familiar notes, and their minds were involuntarily carried back to those pleasant days of youth ere restless am bition had urged them forward to sub due the Western wilderness. Like the bugle call to veteran soldiers, it both awakened tho slumbering memories of the past, and spoke the business of to day. The setting sun of Saturday Oct., 16th saw the tracklayers aeross the arm of the lake, and their houses on wheels resting within a hall mile of the pro jected station. Irregular trains imme diately commcnccd to bring over the treights that had accunulated at the junction, and on th# 26th a passenger car was attached. The station is nearly completed reg ular trains will soon commence'running, and in a few days the railroad will be come one of our established institutions, No more waiting around a crowded Post-Office ior night mails: no more long stage rides over bud roads: no mora delays of express matter: and no more of those innumerable inconveni ences attendant upon a long line of stage communication. Such are the evils which disappear before the tread of the iron horse, and Albert Lea is justly jubilant Notwithstanding the low prico of wheat, our streets are crowded with teams for the few days preceding -the sale of school lands, and the road, lead ing to the ware houses reminded one of the long lines of transportation wagons so frequently seen, during the war. Of course this impetus to business, was ephemeral but the regular fall trade has opened very briskly, and mer chants are delighted with the prospect. was pleased to sec the genial face of Mayor Vanvalkenburg of your city, and learn that he had comc to engage in business here. He is building a fine AUSTIN, MOWER COUNT?, MINN., THURSDAY, N0VEMBER5J$69 warehouse near the station. Messers Campbell and Trimble are rushing the work M. usual. I came very unexpect edly upon Mr. Cargell also, who is to remain with us during the winter in the wheat buying interest. In my last ^mmunication I men tioned a building being erected by Col. Eaton out of concrete" brick. Well the walls were almost completed when lo and behold, one half of the southern side come down with crash, leaving scarcely one brick vpon another. This accident entails quite a heavy loss, both present and prospective, upon the own er, for he not only looses the material already made, bat also the chance of macufacturing the concrete', for sale, as public faith in the invention fall with the wall. Fxcepting this eatastropby to con crete" the business of Albert Lea moves on merrily to the notes of that shrill sounding whittle which called forth this le.ter from. u4tf OLYMPUS.
