DOAN’S p li£ 3 A hearing was recently held on a bill introduced in the lower house of the state legislature, regarding the making of derogatory statements con- i cerning banks, before the house ju diciary committee. The bill provides that any one who “wilfully and ma liciously” circulates “false state ments” concerning the solvency of a bank shall be guilty of a gross mis demeanor. Had this law been on the books during the past few years many unfounded rumors might have been stopped by mere reference to the law without any prosecution. Under such a law a criminal action can be brought against a person for making oral statements relative to the solvency of a bank. Judge A. F. | Ackerman were the speakers at the Francis Willard Memorial meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union last Thursday afternoon. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. A. W. Edwards and was well attend ed by members of the Union and of the Women’s Relief Corps who were the invited guests. In addition to the two fine talks given by the clergy men there were a number of musical and literary numbers included in the enjoyable program given. Announce ment was made that Mrs. Josephine Sizer of Minneapolis would be in Red wood Falls the evening of March 27 and a public meeting will be arrang ed for that evening, this meeting to be held in the Methodist church. Mrs. Edwards and her daughter, Mrs. Raddatz, assisted by several other members of the Union, served a luncheon at the close of the program. The marriage of Miss Mary Soupir, daughter of Soupir of Milroy to William Wagner of Lucan occurred Wednesday, February 16th, at nine o’clock at the church of Our Lady of Victory at Lucan. Rev. Father Kern read the service. The attendants were Miss Soupir and Joe Bauer. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner will reside on a farm near Lucan. Wheeler was offered for the next meeting which will be held March 25th. R. V. Kinney * of. Mound visited among his friends here Monday. He reports that his daughter, Miss Opal Kinney recently sustained severe in juries from a fall on the floor of the gymnasium in the school in which she is teaching. Miss Kinney is a teach er of physical education in lowa. Be cause of the fall she was forced to submit to surgery.
