Local Items. WILLIAM S. ORB, Local Editor. Mayor's Court.—This tribunal this mou sing had but little business before it. Applied for Loooitto.—Daniel H. Clark, a White man, last night applied for lodgings, and was, of course, accommodated. This mor ning he was discharged. ts bad Company and Drunk.—Andrew Clark, a white man, was taken up by our vi gilant Police, and deposited in the Lock Up for safe-keeping. He was found in company with a free negro, and if Mayor Ferguson had the power he would administer stripes to all such white men, which we think they justly deserve. He promised, however, to leave the city as soon as possible, and he was permitted to depart in peace, averring that he wOnld never show his august countenance before our Mayor again. Out after Hours and Drunk.—George Uarrow, a free negro, was arrested last night for being drunk and out after hours. Mayor Ferguson reprimanded George very severely, reading the law concerning free negroes who are caught out after hours, and it was quite amusing to see George tremble from head to foot when informed that the law required the administration of stripes; but giving him a little wholesome, advice, he was apprized that he could depart, provided he would fork over one dollar. His hat was soon in his hand, and he departed from the court room with a speed that created much laughter. “Hamlet,” to-night at the Varieties for the first time this season. Thu Celebration op Yesterday.—The military of our city yesterday celebrated the 7Gth Anniversary of the surrender of the British army, under the command of Lord Cornwallis, at York Town, which terminat ed our revolutionary struggle. Tho Soldiers of the War of 1812, from different sections of the district, mot in the City Hall, and passed a preamble and resolutions, which we were unable to obtain. In ‘'big” Portsmouth a salute was fired in the morning, and some seven or eight com panies para led, six of which belonged to ‘biy Portsmouth, numbering in all about three hundred men. We suppose our friend of the Transcript will admit that they covered themselves all over with glory. Three hundred men, all told, and eight companies, not an average of forty men. Thhatre.—The greatest bill of the season is offered to-night. Shakespeare’s great Tragedy of “Hamlet,” with the entire Star Company in jthe cast. Tub Norfolk County Ferry was yester day leased for ten years by James C. White, Esq., of Portsmouth, for $9,600 per annum. Mr. W’s business qualifications are well known to our community, and we have no doubt, that under his management many im provements will be made. The lease takes effect from the first of next month. Court Street Baptist Church, Ports mouth.—A protracted meeting commenced at this place of worship last night, and will continue during the week. A Religious Revival.—We understand that a religious revival of much interest pre vailed during the last week at Kempsville, Princess Ann county. Many persons have professed conversion. It was conducted un der the auspices of the Rev. M. M. Walk in son, of Portsmouth. TpST* The attention of our readers are in vited to the new advertisements to be found in our issue of to-day.
